Welcome to the SEC. You're not going to cake walk to the playoff. You have got to earn it on the field. And really that is why when we do make it to the big game or the Playoff we have good success because we have gone through the gauntlet and used to those games.
I like our team and I like our staff if we can get the defensive and offensive line to be effective I like our chances at making it to the playoffs and beyond.

Pre season rankings do weirdly matter though. They sort stick around for 5-6 weeks until things shake out. And it forms narratives which matter when you have a committee rather than computers placing teams in the playoff

This is BS
It’s a tough league. Every team plays a difficult schedule and arguing whose is tougher preseason is worthless. LSU has a talented team and if the coaching staff can develop the talent and put together successful game plans they can win it all.

LSU strength of schedule is ranked #23. Florida plays seven top 25 teams, as well; four are in the top ten. Texas, Georgia, LSU, Miami. They have #3 toughest schedule. The team with the #1 toughest schedule is Arkansas.

Three of our last four Week 1 opponents were against top 10 opponents
BUT if you win them, you’re in a great spot. Should have beat USC. Should have beat FSU (at least one of those games). Just didn’t go our way.

I agree...Verge is a nice enough guy but he's in WAY over his head as an asst. AD in charge of scheduling. He's been bamboozled numerous times by opposing Ad's/schedule negotiators...hopefully he will no longer be in charge of such an important aspect of LSU football !

Narrative on LSU strength of schedule ranked at #13 indicates LSU toughest game will be at Alabama and easiest game is Southeastern at home.

Vandy can never beat LSU. But Arky yes. Pretty much any year.

Missouri, auburn, and miss st when they aren't a dumpster fire recruit top 25 classes every year. Auburn and Missouri top 20 and 10. So yes, exactly like those. Talent matters. Please tell me 10-12 big 10 teams that recruit top 25 classes every year. Issue is in the sec you play 7-8 of them a year. Ranked or unranked, the teams talent levels are much higher / player then other leagues. The nfl doesnt draft the sec bc they like them more. The only area that it hasn't been admitted, is the rankings the last 10+ years, because they got tired of sec teams winning it. So every year the same 4 big 10 teams, 3 big 12, etc all get tossed into the top 12, when they lose they don't drop more then 2-4 spots. Check the 17-25, teams last year. Gonna be tough to understand why we weren't top 20 ranked when you look at sos. Strength of record, top 25 wins, top 25 losses.

Tough schedule, but we do have 1 break by not having Georgia on the schedule.

No they don’t. Not every year.

Not 10-12, but … USC-#1, Oregon-#3, OSU-#9, Mich-#11, PennSt-#16, UCLA-#21, Ill- #24, Minn-#29. Everything will change with NIL.
My entire argument was that SOS (and rankings) is/are dumb in PRE-SEASON. No one has a clue how good or bad most teams will be. Wait until October to get a better idea. AND until the Playoff Committee puts more emphasis on SOS in selections, It is more and more irrelevant. Just seems like they are only looking at the number on the left.
Who would have guessed we would lose 4 games last year, and should/could have lost two more.
