AKA

Bama's QB playing a defense like ours for the first time vs. Lee playing a Bama type defense for at least the third time

More to it than that.

We have to contain Alabama in special teams. Getting non-offensive TDs would be nice, but we cannot give them up under any circumstance

Yet, we still have more sacks than them

I haven't watched bama as much as I have LSU but I base it on what I have seen. WV game aside (I don't think LSU was trying to get to Geno) it seems LSU's dline is focused on stopping the run w/o much stunting.

Also I think we have some sacks that should be called coverage sacks.

All the stats mean jack shite...on nov.5 the team that plays the hardest, most physical, and makes the fewest mistakes will win. I think you can throw stats out the window for this one. It's who wants it more. I like our team in this one.

Bama gonna get a wake-up call this year.

advantage at QB (referring to both guys

Yes, there it is.

We can beat Bama at their own game. They don't have a mobile QB, whereas we can move the point of attack and still keep the ball on the ground. This is why having Jefferson was so important. And even though he is obviously an inferior choice through the air than Lee, he can still throw the ball, and even more effectively on first down than Lee.

Both teams will attempt to force the pass, and we're better equipped to do it. More and better downlinemen. Alabama's strength is farther off the ball (LB). And when they compensate by crowding the box, we can take better advantage of this situation than they can of us.

Just the way I see it.

Their biggest advantage, IMO, is going to be the home field and all the events surrounding the tornado. Some of those emotional driven intangibles that can make a difference when everything is on the line.

MSU and Florida are not like Bama on defense.

I'm just interested to see who will rise to the occassion.

I think the Bama defense has certainly benefited (statistically) from the weakness of their schedule.

By that same token, they are still very strong.

Last season, their defense was just as vaunted and we hung 433 yards on them, including 225 rushing at 5.0 yards a carry. And our OL is better this year, IMO.

I agree but also think it isn't as big an advantage as it would be in most years. LSU appears to be one of the best road teams in the nation. I think our players are more hyped up on the road.

This is not Lee's first year at LSU or his first dance against Bama

We have to force their LB's to defend run. This will open the passing lanes. When the safeties compensate on obvious running downs (much like the two first downs we had in the second half of last year's game from inside our own 25, pass to Toliver, TD pass to Randle) to allow the LB's to commit to run, we can safely throw downfield.

You don't see the faulty logic here?

Of course Bama's opponents will have less yards per game than LSU's, because they played BAMA who is giving up less yards per game than LSU.

It's not like they play Bama every week

1 game out of 6 isn't enough to skew the stats that much

I've never seen two different teams play almost identical on both sides of the ball. If you gave me either stat, I wouldn't be surprised if either team put them up (and that includes sacks, tackles for loss, turnovers, or any other category LSU leads in, too).

The stats are tough to draw a bead on. Different competition and location (road vs. away) make it tough to get an apples to apples on both.

Alabama has a more swarming defense, which will confuse LSU's offense for the first half.

the big difference is that Bama plays like they want to eat your children on every play. they absolutely love to hit you and do so every play, all game long.

LSU on the otherhand plays like that for about 8 drives a game and then the coaches put the players in a zone defense the rest of the game to just chill.

I have zero doubt, that if LSU's coaches wanted to, they could line up man2man all game long and bring the heat like Bama does. But, it hasn't been necessary and Miles generally doesn't waste his time with that. It'll be interesting to see if we can bring it every play if the game calls for it.

The question should be altered to this:

Which Offense matches up better against the D?

LSU & Bama both have the best units in cfb, there is no debating it.

But what does Bama want to do? What are their options? They are POWER RUN with limited passing game.

What are our strengths? Stopping the run, penetrating for TFL, and pressuring the qb.

On the other hand what does LSU do on offense? Power offense with limited passing but with a more experienced set of qbs and a running qb.

As a result, we can compensate for their strengths much better than they can against us.
