Don't know why Maineri doesn't do like he did in 2009. Load the lineup with HR hitters(everyone had at least 5, and we had 5 ppl with 10+). It worked for Skip, and it worked him also.

The practice thing isn't as bad as ya'll are making it out to be. Coach Bertman missed many a practice. The difference is that Coach Bertman had good assistants and he was a huge, "ooh, jumbo", advantage when it came to game decisions (pitch calling, game strategy). Coach Mainieri has not shown to be an advantage in game management (bunt, hit and run, pitching changes), but Coach Mainieri has shown that when he has talent, he can win with em.

Here's to hoping we fix our recruiting.

Oh yeah, Russian, do you need anymore links of Mainieri blaming the recruiting on Grewe?????

I can assure the board not all head coaches are hands off at practice.

Ron Polk was very involved and active at practice. He ate, slept, and drank baseball. He was lead recruiter too.

And he had good assistants as well.

Ron Polk was great. I'm not knocking him. Just throwing a little jab.

Head coaches don't do anything at practice anyway

So, if he hasn't been recruiting and he doesn't have to do anything at practice, what exactly is he getting paid for?

Sounds like PM is distracted. We need Charlie Conway to get PM to throw a lifesize cutout of himself into a fire-in-a-barrel.

In fairness to Mainieri, you have to remember what ultimately got his predecessor fired. It wasn't on-filed results and talent level (both of which were in decline) or off-the field behavior problems. It was because he lost the support of the donor base. No doubt PM came in understanding that he had to give direct attention to that area.

That said, his comments suggest that he undoubtedly moved too far in that direction, and it is to his credit that he has owned up and is making those changes.

What do you mean any "more"? You haven't posted ONE link which says PM blamed Grewe. The link you gave PM says twice that he blames himself and no one else.

The paper this morning said Grewe stopped going on recruiting trips on May 12, which was the day he told Mainieri and Alleva that he did not want his contract renewed when it expires next month. So, unless you believe that Grewe, Mainieri AND AD Alleva are all blatant liars, Grewe's departure seems to be his own decision. Perhaps he could read the tea leaves and he believed he was on the hot seat so he resigned before he could be fired, but he apparently was not fired. Of course, you conspiracy theorists will disagree, but I don't care.

BTW, I've really gotten into your head, haven't I? It's good to know SOMETHING is in your head because your posts indicate a vacuum there.....

I guess what bothers me is PM is getting pass with some fans, while Les and Trent cant catch a break.

huge turn around needs to happen next season or he can pack his bags and get out.

This isnt football where you have a crap load of coaches.. Why wouldnt the head coach be envolved? Even then I bet Les Miles shows up on time for football practice.

I'm pretty sure the players will mostly work with the assistants the head kinda watches over everything and such. The assistants relationships are more important then the Head Coach.

I wonder if the Skipper would want to come back as a consultant to CPM?

In other words, Maineri went on an ego trip and now that he is in danger of losing his job, he will go back and do what he did when he got here....

Can he do that? I really doubt it....I think he has lost his team and my support....hanging around Tommy Lasorda too much and acting just like him...

Giving Javy more authority and letting him recruit all the hitters that he doesnt teach how to hit and waves in to be thrown out at home sounds like a great plan.
