re: Max Johnson might be the real deal.

Max Jets can actually operate this offense and as long as we have a competent QB at the helm we will put up points in this scheme. Like First Cut alluded to, there’s no reason Finley should’ve been ahead of him and after Auburn Max should’ve been given a shot to compete for the job. But like always Orgeron won’t make the right decision until he’s coaching for his job.

Not true. A&M had their starters in trying to pitch a shutout and gain favor with the selection committee. I don't know who all was on the field at the time, but a 4th down pass in the end zone to Gilbert was broken up by Surtain for Alabama.
That’s true. I think those teams game planning for Finley probably still made it tougher on him than Johnson coming in late in the 3rd.
But Max Johnson has been consistent in every game he has played. Finley has struggled besides the South Carolina game and maybe the Arkansas game.
Johnson’s playing time came against #1 Bama, #5 A&M, #6 Florida and Auburn.
The Florida game was on a whole different level than the South Carolina game.

UF and SCar are not anywhere near the same level. C’mon, man.
I never said they were
Your first post read like Finley has shown no signs of being a competent QB, which is hardly true.
I mean...we had guys arguing that Finley should start over Brennan after the SC game

I think Johnson’s accuracy is more important than arm strength. He throws a ball right on the money that’s easy to catch. He’s very smart. His Dad was a great teacher. He has poise and can run, which is huge. He will only get better. I’m betting that he’s our starter if Brennan is not healthy.

He never said it was a toss up. He said it was almost a tossup but that Finely did some things on third downs that separated them.

Against our defense in practice, he probably looked all american.

People are going to want the Garrett Nussmeier kid to play.

TJ needs to move on. And he will.

Max and TJ both have potential. I hope they both stick it out and compete. It was good to see Max communicating with his receivers on the sideline.

TJ got the start because he is more physically gifted than Max Johnson. Plus he is local so that plays a part in it as well. That still doesn’t make him a better QB than Max Johnson.
I really like Brennan, but from Johnson’s first series under center LSU has “IT” when he is in there. That can’t be coached, you either have it or you don’t. Burrow had IT in spades and Johnson has what it takes as well.

If that played any sort of part whatsoever then everyone involved in that decision should be fired and ostracized for life.
I don’t give a frick where a kid is from once they put on that gold helmet. He could be from Baton Rouge or fricking Yugoslavia for all I give a shite. He’s a tiger

I definitely remember we said the same about Finley after SC..

Unlike other backup QBs who've captured the attention and hype of the fans, you can tell Johnson is different. He's had legit qb coaching from his dad and probably his uncle and any other pro type QB gurus since he started throwing the football. Once he masters the playbook, better at reading defenses, and if LSU gets the right QB coach, you can see he has the physical tools to dominate the QB position.
He throws an accurate and catchable ball with enough pace to complete out routes and deep balls. Finley has the arm, but not the consistent touch. I'd watch very closely this week against Ole Miss. If Johnson continues to improve with more reps and a 2nd SEC start, and plays as good or even better against a less talented defense, then I think Orgeron will have to really evaluate whether he can keep Johnson on the bench next year.

Max has a QB for a Dad and his coach. The difference, is that he understands where the pressure is coming and how to throw to that area. LSU could help him with better play calling. I believe everyone has said TJ was raw when he got here and could use more time in the program and better coaching. He may have a better arm than Max, but that has never been proven to be the best determinant of a winner.

Some a-hole (that turned out to be me) was still screaming profanities at coach cuck so I didn’t hear it well, but did O come out talking about the team having a championship QB after that win? Trying to verify that I didn’t make that up in my drunkiness...if so Ud think he’d of known it 5 games before last night, no?

Isn’t arm strength generally overrated?
Max had 1-2 throws he shouldn’t have made, but most were on target and gave our WR’s space to run.
Finley I think has digressed a bit: lacks touch on short passes, and made increasing poor decisions with the ball.

Max, Garrett, and Howard are the future of the QB position at LSU. It’s a bright future.

O handled that whole situation like an idiot
Who's to say max doesnt think he got a fair shake and wants to transfer
O better beg him to stay

Nuss is going to have the same problem Myles had, he's going to have to put in weight. He's like 195 lbs. So I'll say he'll probably redshirt freshman yr. IMO.

He played well. That was a good Florida team. Whatever the case moving forward I know we have QBssss Now! Feels good.
