I’m not buying it. I don’t think he has the arm strength to be a NC contender.
Many said the same about Burrow, who doesn't have a howitzer like Finley. Accuracy > strong arm every time. Max has better qb instincts than Finley as well.

354 yards of total offense he averaged per 4 quarters. And no turnovers.
You can win some games with that dude.

Hodson looked like a senior his freshman year. He regressed unfortunately as his career went on but he had as good a freshman year as I've ever seen. Max definitely has the tools. I think Brennen has a stronger arm but Max is stronger and is more prone to take advantage of the run.TJ has the tools too but unfortunately with this line a mobile QB is needed.

Finley is the better pure thrower. And yes, while he was inconsistent (his OL didn't help him much) he still had some solid games. Certainly for a true freshman who had virtually no spring and a less than ideal summer workout/learning period. I'm not ready to write him off just yet. Because of his arm strength, there may not be another QB in the SEC who can match his good throws. More consistency, better mechanics and a better understanding of the game are necessary.
Johnson, while probably less able to threaten the entire field, showed his level of training/understanding that comes from having a ex-NFL QB father. The game never really looked to big for him. He saw the blitzes pre snap and had a plan.
Finley this year was young Jamarcus. You love watching him just fling the ball effortlessly. You see the raw ability there. But with that rawness came inconsistency and frustration.
Johnson reminded me of Mauck and to some degree, Etling. None of the plays he made really "wowed" you (except the first TD pass), but he was in command of the offense and a gamer. Very few really questionable decisions.
Brennan did nothing to lose the starting job. But I can't imagine LSU doesn't go into spring with a full fledged and very interesting QB competition. Assuming Johnson starts vs. Ole Miss the experience tally looks like this going into March
Brennan: 3 starts. Roughly 7-10 games receiving significant snaps
Finley: 5 starts. All against SEC competition
Johnson: 2 starts. Roughly 5 games receiving significant snaps
Yes, he's been in the program for MUCH longer. But it's hard to say Brennan has THAT much experience now.

Finley definitely doesn't suck. He has skills but unfortunately I believe this offense needs a mobile QB who can also run. That is more important right now than a better arm which TJ definitely has at this time.

I definitely remember we said the same about Finley after SC... Poised, confident, etc
And? I think it is true of both Finley and Johnson. They are both very poised as freshmen.

He has at least as much arm strength, as a freshman, as Burrow had as a fifth year senior.

Yall act like Finley has sucked.
He was awesome against south Carolina for that being his first start

I watched burrow throw a hail mary 65 yards in the air ,at least ,this year. Idk why he never throws it hard cuz he has that ability

He's had legit qb coaching from his dad and probably his uncle
How ridiculous. Mark Richt probably spent as much time coaching Finely as he did Max. Plus, any QB whose parents can afford a clinic can get all the coaching that Max got from his dad.

Hodson was a redshirt freshman when he started.
Hodson didn't regress, he lost his receivers. Wendell Davis
The Earthquake game, he used the running back Fuller twice for the winning TD. The first one, Fuller was on the line, out of bounds.
LSU fans haven't changed. They booed Hodson prior to the winning TD.

Max has a QB for a Dad and his coach. The difference, is that he understands where the pressure is coming and how to throw to that area. LSU could help him with better play calling
LSU DID help him with great play calling. They ran the ball 50 times. That’s what took the pressure off Max and gave him a chance. Had they thrown the ball, like Florida did, Max would have had two interceptions and lots of sacks and fumbles.

I saw his stats under fire from the UF game on SECN this am. Sorta blew my mind. Max is a winner.

You can get anyone to say anything if you cut and paste and selectively choose what to quote. The point is that Orgeron DID SAY that Finley did some things on third downs that separated them.
