Please tell me you aren't talking about the Tennessee game on Friday. The game he went 2 for 3 with 5 RBIs, HR and 3B?

jmitch struck out damn near 15 times in the last week. I think 4 on Fri, 3 on Sat, and 3 on Sun. I can't remember his stats for the midweek games but I'm sure he must have struck out a few times. I think you need to move him out of the leadoff spot.

A lot of those have been called third strikes, too. He just seems to freeze up on the breaking pitch, especially against left-handers.

you can deal with K's if he is getting on 47% of the time.

Here's some stats from his last 3 weekends...

Fri vs. UT - 2 for 3, 2 BB, 1 SO
Sat vs. UT - 0 for 4, 0 BB, 3 SO
Sun vs. UT - 0 for 4, 0 BB, 3 SO

Fri vs. Bama - 2 for 5, 0 BB, 1 SO
Sat vs. Bama - 0 for 4, 0 BB, 4 SO
Sun vs. Bama - 1 for 4, 0 BB, 2 SO

Fri vs. UGA - 0 for 2, 2 BB, 0 SO
Sat vs. UGA - 1 for 4, 1 BB, 2 SO
Sun vs. UGA - 1 for 4, 1 BB, 1 SO

So not so bad against UGA as far as getting on base and striking out but since then it's bee a real struggle for him.

Gibbs switch hitting is a part of his problem. Pick his best side for a while and go with it. 245 switching hitting in run producing spot does not help anyone. He should be a big rbi guy. He is very talented, but it is time to help the team and not improve his draft stock

He has struggled against lefties. Just throwing this out there but if Chad Jones comes back and can get in a grove he would a possible candidate for to put in the 1

That is some what of a pipe dream I am not even sure if he comes back and if he would be effective when he did. But it would also take Landry out of the line up.

you want to move J mitch to the 9 hole? And get him one less at bat per game?

That would be one less strikeout dumbass.

he is able to work the count

Not in April. That was definitely his strength in first six weeks of the season; showed his maturity at the plate. He looks to be taking every first strike and getting behind in the count. He was much more effective when pitchers thought he had the green light on first pitch.

Another leftie at the plate.

Point taken but its not a given he will have as much trouble against lefties as Mitch has.

Mitch can hit for power when he needs, has speed to put pressure on defense if lead off guy gets on, and can bunt if need be in a tight game sacrifice situation... perfect 2 hole hitter.

A prototypical 2 hole hitter has great bat control and makes contact. You don't really want to hit and run with Mitchell at the plate.

I'd put Mitchell in Gibbs' spot. Hanover looks like a leadoff guy, but his OBP isn't that great. I still think it would be a decent move. Maybe use Hanover against LHP and Landry against RHP.

W/ the exception of Blake Dean (oddly enough, a left-handed hitter), this whole team has had trouble hitting lefties this year.

that is somewhat important for a lead off guy, is look at a few pitches.

That's the one knock on Jared. He looks at too many pitches.

We really don't have the ideal lead off guy on the team this year. JM is hell on the bases and has a good OBP but is not a contact hitter. Don't change his spot in the order, just fix his problem. Show him some more curves from a real left handed pitcher at batting practice so he can see it better and try to get him to slap at that ball on the outside corner and he will be fine. If he hits it on the ground he will probably get on base.

Hanover is too much of a free swinger and he doesn't walk enough to hit the leadoff spot

Agreed. Mahtook is a better bet. Chad Jones if he comes back well could also make sense. Otherwise, JM needs to stay there and just work his way out of the slump.

Apparently he has a hard time determining whether the LHP's breaking ball is going to come through the strike zone or not. Here's hoping he improves that.
