Even if he was drunk, I'm glad that they didn't test him. He has suffered enough IMO with a possible career ending injury

yeah, drunk driving athletes are above the law IMO

Not sure but there might be some 4th Amendment constitutional constraints for illegal search and seizure here.
If someone doing that to their vehicle does not constitute reasonable suspicion, I don't know what does. Plus, you don't need consent for an EtOH level. HIV yes, but not EtOH.
At least not in most states. And they definitely had the blood in the lab but someone chose not to run it or not to reveal the results, probably the former,, since the latter would be very difficult to suppress once run.
If it was really run and not reported, that will leak.

why do people assume the worst of the guy? i swear it seems like people want him to have been under the influence..
And I hope he was not drinking or UI, but a bad wreck at 6:30 a.m. is not likely to be the gang on the way to work out; likely to be on the way home from a long night out.
My main point is that blood was drawn and the lab test could have been run, and you know the docs thought about it. I worked in ER's in my training and it was routine when that sort of thing came in. And the police WANTED it run.

FWIW, I've seen Chad out multiple times and he was always drinking water.

Please. In other words, alcohol was likely invloved.
quote:
“The officers on the scene had no reason to believe alcohol was involved,” Harper said.
Jones’ blood-alcohol content was never tested. Earlier reports of toxicology tests were inaccurate. Toxicology levels are measured on the deceased.
“We have two tests we use when the driver is alive: The Intoxilyzer 5000 and a blood test,” Harper said. “Obviously we couldn’t administer the breathalyzer because the driver needed to go to the hospital. And when the officers got to the hospital to request a blood test, he was already in surgery and by then it was too late.”

It doesn't matter. They guy wrecked his car and seriously injured no one other than himself. Be realistic and admit that he is probably never going to play another down of football. He has already paid dearly - more than most of us could imagine. Let it go at that.

Just to clear something up, having worked in an ER, if someone comes in for a trauma like a car wreck, and must be rushed into surgery, the doctors always take enough blood for blood tests first.

This is what I would have assumed.
You can bet your arse that if someone else in another car had been injured because of this wreck, and test would have been given.
I am inclined to believe the cops that based on the information at the scene, he wasn't drunk.

Even if they did not order on the spot... they already had plenty of blood drawn from the safety labs and could have easily just tacked on the tox screens from the blood in lab.
Exactly. There was no want to do this test.

No alcohol in Jones accident
Its not that ridiculous to think he was probably drunk, no tests were taken, so they don't know.
It's also not that ridiculous to think that he was probably NOT drunk, no tests were taken, so they don't know. How in the hell can you want the taste of alcohol at 6:00 a.m. anyway?
This has already been mentioned. Jones said his wheels were stuck in the streetcar tracks and he turned his wheel too fast or awkwardly and it caused the vehicl to flip.

he is already paying a steep price for whatever really happened.
his NFL career is doubtful, and a MLB career is doubtful.
He is in a hospital room, wondering if he will walk normally.
He has to go back to school to get a degree. He is said to have fluffed off the last semester, so he has to deal with burning the academic bridges too.

I don't think the test would be very accurate if they just soaked up a little of the blood from the floorboard of his car.
Nor would it be admissible in court.
