Hunt Palmer did a good job breaking that down. Those numbers were padded against awful baseball teams. They’re decent but feasted on some high school squads.

We typically struggle against guys that have more strikeouts than IP and who don’t give up a lot of hits. This guy is basically the opposite. Not saying it’s gonna be easy but there should be opportunities.

Ju will definitely pitch Friday and leaving Holman for UNC

I fully expect a barrage of “pro at bats” like Jay likes to call it. See the Houston Classic against UT and ULL where pretty much everyone saw at least 5 pitches every at bat. Demoralized the pitchers and inevitably broke them.

1-3 vs teams in the top 50 RPI. Lost to Georgia and 1-2 vs the College of Charleston (RPI 42), 11-8 vs top 100 teams. SO 4 games vs top 50 and 19 vs top 100.
LSU is 18-17 vs top 50 teams, 21-18 vs top 100 teams. In fact, LSU is 3-5 vs top 5 teams. So LSU has played 8 top 5 games, twice as many as Wofford has played top 50, and won 3 of those games, 3 times as many as Wofford has won in the top 50.

We didn’t exactly run away from Tulane last year.
Anything can happen, but a loss to Wofford tomorrow
would be extremely disappointing.

Figured it’d be a lefty… I got nothing else

Get by Wofford but can’t have Brown, Larson and Pearson in the order vs a soft tossing lefty. That’s a made for O-fer.

Jump is gonna go Friday to help control their running game. It is harder to steal on left handed pitching. They like to run.
That's certainly gonna be a big factor. He's also only walked 5 guys in his last 6 starts. I think he's more likely to throw 1 more inning than Holman (who's goes deeper into counts by just a bit) and be able to get us through Game 1 using only 2 pitchers. Not saying he certainly will, but if Jump can go 7 and we have enough runs to let Guidry finish the 8th and 9th (or Ulloa 1 and Guidry one, whatever), I really like our chances Saturday with Hollman starting and being able to hand it off to Herring, even if he has to go 3 or 4.
If we can start 2-0 and have a fresh Ack to start Game 3 with Hurd, Ulloa, Hellmers, Dutton, Loer, Moffett all ready to go against UNC playing their 4th game, I really like our chances. If they beat us in Game 3 and we have to play a 4th game against them playing their 5th game, then who the frick knows. Would probably be a high scoring game and come down to the bats. But we would have some guys who came in in relief Friday/Sat (not named Jump or Holman) who could be able to come back Monday and give us something.
Not some amazing take, but we really need to get 6 or 7 from Jump and Holman in Games 1 and 2, not have to use Ack, and have him give us 5 or 6 in Game 3. Even if we wind up losing Game 3, if Ack can give us 5 or 6, I think we'd still have enough in the pen for Monday to keep us in a Game 4 against UNC in their 5th game. But obviously, our best path would be to go 3-0. So much depends on the bats, though.

No shite?

Both UNC top 2 starters dont have high strikeouts per IP. The ball will be put in play quite a bit.

Not really. Win or lose, their second game will be Saturday against either us or Wofford.

Question is... does this LHP have a good change up? Somebody do some research and find out.
To my eyes, I don't have the numbers to support this, but we seem to do much better against a lefty that throws fastball + breaking balls than the ones who mix in a good change up often. That, indeed, seems to be our kryptonite is a good lefty change up.

Matthew Matthijs appears to be their ace at 12-4
Thought we would be facing him. So after we beat them to go 2-0, they will have to throw him in game 3.

They are pitching their Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starters in their normal order.

Probably. It's such a good pitch for a LHP against RHH if they can command it and throw it on the outer 3rd, that it's typically the 2nd pitch they learn and start to throw in youth ball. A lot of the harder throwers wind up developing a slider as an out pitch and may throw it more, but just about every lefty at this level should be able to mix in a good changeup at some point.
