You can cheer for Lincoln Riley. He wants soft arse schedules too.

Schedule them for week 2 like in 2019 not week 1 and I’m fine with it. It’s being smart not scared. You play plenty of tough teams in a sec schedule that you don’t need to prove anything. It’s just dumb to be a hard arse in this scenario.

If you’re scared say you’re scared.
LSU football players and coaches want to play these games. You can guarantee that

No reason we should not have won both of the past 2 FSU games.
Kelly has got to get these boys more prepared. I think it changes this year with USC.

We’ve lost the openers the last few years because we were the worse team and made crucial turnovers at the worst time. The two with Kelly were against an FSU team who won 10 and 13 games in those years respectively. We lost to a better team on both fronts, not because we didn’t have a warm up game against Alcon state

Why do we continue to do this to ourselves?
Because, as college football fans we WANT to see these matchups.

I just can’t stomach having two more seasons being one win away from a playoff because we have to play these idiotic openers
Either LSU is good enough to win these games or they are not.
You're not a football fan and you likely never will be.

Be thankful they are home & home. I hate that we didn’t go to Madison, WI. We did get to play in the freakin Rose Bowl, but not The Coliseum. I really do not like the neutral site games.

A home and home vs Clemson is great. Anything is better than yet another neutral site game week 1.

You want to be good, play good teams. It’s all about who you play.
Bring it on.
Bring it on.

People bitch about games against directional schools, they bitch about neutral site games, now they bitch about incredible home and home matchups. Defies logic.

Everyone does it.
Not really. Very few teams consistently schedule the types of opening games that we have scheduled in recent years. They might do it once in a while, but not every year.
quote:
Texas A&M plays Notre Dame this year. Georgia plays Clemson this year. Bama plays FSU next year. Ohio State plays Texas in 25 and 26. Michigan plays Texas and Oklahoma twice each over the next 4 years.
Case in point, here are those teams’ opening games since 2021:
Texas A&M
2021 - Kent State
2022 - Sam Houston
2023 - New Mexico
2024 - Notre Dame
Georgia
2021 - Clemson
2022 - Oregon
2023 - UT Martin
2024 - Clemson
Alabama
2021 - Miami
2022 - Utah State
2023 - Middle Tennessee
2024 - Western Kentucky
Ohio State
2021 - Minnesota
2022 - Notre Dame
2023 - Indiana
2024 - Akron
Michigan
2021 - Western Michigan
2022 - Colorado State
2023 - East Carolina
2024 - Fresno State
LSU
2021 - UCLA
2022 - Florida State
2023 - Florida State
2024 - USC
Now.. I would agree that pretty much everyone plays somebody OOC with a pulse every year. But not everyone does it opening week. LSU’s slate of season opening games from 2021-2026 is the toughest in the country, and I don’t think it’s particularly close. Doesn’t really help when 2 of our last 4 openers had a week 0 tune-up game, either. Hopefully we’ve made some contractual moves to prevent that moving forward.
Personally I’d rather play good teams than cupcakes. While I think tough OOC scheduling is a net negative toward your chances of making a 12-team playoff, I don’t think it hurts your chances at winning a championship. If you’re good enough to win it all, you’re good enough to make it into the CFP with a tough OOC schedule.
That being said, there is a significant portion of the fan base who view making the 12-team CFP as the bar for success, regardless of schedule. And the reality is that when you’re a major program like LSU, your odds of making it are probably significantly higher if you do the bare minimum in terms of OOC scheduling.

From a pure football perspective and attendance perspective USC and Clemson are going to sell out and ull and Nichols are not. Football enthusiast around the world will tune in for lsu vs usc and lsu vs Clemson. People have weddings and stuff vs Vanderbilt and Nichols. Only great teams do this. We are by the way a 6 point favorite in Vegas. Geaux Tigers

Yes, this cannot happen again and there are ways to make sure it does not...these need to be implemented.

Excuses. We need to be prepared to play who our opponent is on opening day. The tune ups, the name of the school, etc. does not matter. We looked like dog shite, played like dog shite, and got beat. I love that we are scheduling real games. We play in the SEC, no need to shy away from competition. The players love it. It's why they come here...

You can say this all you want but it’s bullshite. Playing a team that had an extra week of fall camp and a game is a legitimate disadvantage. Does it excuse losing to UCLA in 2021? No. We should have been better than them. But as it turned out we were shite and went 6-7.
FSU in 2022 was a good team, and the extra week of practice / game experience (in a year where we had new coordinators on both sides) could have been a huge difference. It doesn’t excuse the special teams disaster but it’s still a factor.
The name of the school doesn’t matter? Seriously? The 2023 FSU game might be the strongest season opener we have ever played. I would argue they were the best team we played all year, and I think they had a legit shot at 15-0 if Travis hadn’t been injured.
As I said, I like playing these games. But I’m also willing to accept that a 9-3 season with a loss to 13-1 FSU in the opener is basically equivalent to a 10-2 season with a .500 ACC team as your best OOC opponent. Many people seem to think they’re drastically different, and long for the years of going 10-2 while beating up on cupcakes out of conference.
