quote:Related. It's not a complete tear. It wasn't a "pop". We pitched him not realizing the severity. And it was likely already needing surgery prior to the start in the CWS.
Is this completely unrelated to his forearm soreness and just bad luck?
Or did it already happen before the game which was why he was sore and we pitched him not knowing it?

Sucks bad. I predict Hess, Gilbert and a freshman stud by mid season will be the starting 3 and will do well.

So...is this technically not Tommy John surgery? I'm not a doctor, so help me out. But my understanding of TJS is that the ligament is replaced by another ligament from elsewhere. But this states that his ligament will be repaired. If that's the case, does that also mean he has a better chance of returning to 100% and pitching like his old self again?

Do we pre-melt for next season now?

Pardon my ignorance but I really don't know shite about pitchers and the cause of their injuries. Was this in some way caused by over use or bad technique or was is something that just happens to some athletes? In other words, could it have been prevented?

I don't think people know just yet why there are so many UCL injuries. Theories are:
overwork as youth (just too many pitches)
playing baseball year round travel team instead of having an offseason (a different flavor of overwork)
higher velocity of today's pitchers
improper mechanics of some sort
and a dozen other theories
If it was known for sure, I think most people believe we could make changes that would help curtail these types of injuries.

quote:It's TJ. They use a tendon (usually from the same forearm) and drill holes in the ulna and radius and tie it into a figure 8 where the UCL is. And the chances of returning to 100% are already really high. It's a very successful surgery where the only complications happen during rehab to the shoulder, not the elbow.

He should have never pitched in the CWS. He should of had a MRI earlier.

Hess is now LSU's ace then?
I think the guy that had less than a 1.00 whip and better than 10 K/9 in 60+ innings pitched would be LSU's ace

Get it fixed.
Come back healthy.
Hope your future is bright.

He told the coaches he felt fine, they should assume he is lying?
