I don't think there is anything "retarded" about pointing out that Steele is a credible preseason commentator. What may, in fact, be "retarded" is impugning or dismissing his predictions simply because he happens to have LSU unranked. That's irrational homerism at its worst.

because he have USC at #9, UNC at #12, Nebraska at #5? UNC and Nebraska have shitty offense and theyre ahead of us

True, they do have ineffective offenses. However, they both project to have far better defenses than we currently do. Also, they have easier schedules than us and - assuming he is utilizing the same formula as in past years - Steele's rankings account for that. I could be wrong, but I believe his rankings are a projection of where teams will finish, not necessarily an assessment of pure talent.

You pointed out that he predicted our last two national championships. And you were wrong. You're praising him for something he never did, which is retarded.

Not to mention SC was killed by Stanford (@ home), @ Oregon, and barely beat a below average Boston College team. While UNC struggled to score vs average defenses in the ACC and in most cases below average defenses.

In 2003, literally no one in the mainstream national CFB media outside of Steele was giving LSU any chance of winning the NC during the preseason. Even if it was a "darkhorse" pick, I was impressed. And in 2007 he at least predicted the NC appearance (which is less impressive because many writers did the same). Last year, he had us ranked 17 in the preseason. Overall, I thought the guy has been pretty accurate (and even optimistic) on LSU. So when he ranks LSU outside of the Top 25, I am prone to think he has some reasonable basis for doing it.

Good for you. I'm not as flattered by being the 3rd team on a list that if the right people lose and we win our games then maybe we sneak into the national title game and win. He's lived off of that "maybe" with rantards for 7 years.

That's fine and well, but the fact remains that his prediction - while not perfect - was the most accurate of all the preseason publications in 2003. And last year, of course, he was dead on. He projected we would finish 17th and we finished...17th. He is not an oracle and he can be wrong, obviously, but his predictions are credible, at least.

Steele has LSU #26 in his magazine if I remember correctly...

Doesn't matter, I have little faith we have a QB that can win more than 8 games.

So, it would appear, according to his rankings, that LSU will finish 6-6.

Does he also predict our outcome in Shreveport?

Steele will make good locker room material.

ESPN has LSU #14 and NC #25.

the poll of polls, (avg of all polls)
has LSU #15 and NC #16.

Steele is the Rasmussen of polls. Outlier. He has LSU #26.
They are not really unranked. he ranks 30 teams. Sneaky of you to make it look like they are not even considered.

I'm going to put on P&G KAD sunglasses and say this is FANTASTIC. See, if we wind up ranked 22nd, we can celebrate as that will "better than projected".

I always enjoy setting the bar low, so that when you step over it you really feel like you've accomplished something.......
