I worry every year we might lose an assistant, but thats the price of success
I think the fact his son enrolls in the fall and he turned down an HC job means he's looking to stay at RICE,but look at Muschamp,
although he left for an HC,,not just a lateral move

I'd much rather Sanchez go than Grewe.
really, really disagree
PM's style is very aggressive on the base paths and it will be no matter who coaches 3rd. would another coach maybe do a little better? sure, but the style PM plays, we're just gonna take risks and sometimes get burned. and as a hitting coach, i just dont really see a lot of hitting talent on this team for javi or anyone to work with
grewe on the other hand is directly responsible for pitching, development, and calling pitches. i'd say a pitching coach has a much greater impact on his players than a hitting coach. i like grewe and hope/think he will land on his feet, but i think it's best for both parties to split ways
BTW, i think a GREAT hire would be tom holliday

Javi is the only one who should stay. Grewe and Manarri are the reason you guys have lost so many players to the draft in the past couple years.
That's really awesome for your second post. You think you could learn to spell our head coaches' name right when you make your third.

you can be aggressive and not be stupid
there is a line there that Javi has crossed since the 1st time he was put in the 3rd base coaching box

throw the mint at Vandy's pitching coach.
Should hace thrown the mint at Vandy's pitching coach two years ago. I posted how our pitching regress as the season goes on for two years. Head coach should not be far behind.

This may be the biggest factor Owlie. LSU will pay more money and he could still come back to Rice for the HC gig when Graham retires. It's a lateral move title-wise, but not money-wise. And remember Smoke Laval...it's not always roses and peaches when you follow your mentor who is also a coaching legend...
Like you said, it may just be wishful thinking on LSU's part, but I would be pissed if Mainieri didn't seriously gauge his interest.

dunn looks like a pretty impressive candidate, and someone did mention that PM may be after a pro coach.
i'd place pierce ahead of him just because he's a proven commodity in college ball, but wouldnt be disappointed with dunn

So,is Dunn the guy!
Or is PM going to reach out to a few college guys to, because if so, this may drag out a few weeks.

The pitching really wasn't that bad considering the lack of experience.Although it would be nice to see a lil less 0-2 pitches splitting the plate. It's just difficult to believe these kids made it to LSU without being able to hit.

ok pm now it is time to show javi the door
Posted on 5/31/11 at 8:42 pm to LSUcrawfish
If true, good. Now if the reason Coach PM coached third base in game 1 and 3 against M. State is because he did not have faith in Javi (who was miserable in Game 2), then the only reason Javi is not gone is because Coach PM is trying to get him placed somewhere before he releases him.
As most of our young ranters will learn one day, do not quit (or get fired, if you can) before you find another job. Usually, your respect is greatly diminished, you have no bargaining power, and you have the huge pressure of unemployment. Avoid a firing by having a heart to heart with your employer, who will usually let you know where you stand and will give you time to find another job; even a step down is better than being fired. Heck, there is a fair chance your current employer will give you a good reference even if he was about to fire you. Employers dislike firing people who show up on time, are honest, and are dedicated but who simply cannot run with the big boys, yet.
