I really don’t see much of a distinction or a need to have made that distinction. When he was interim he was already given “full authority to make the hire”.
But, since you seem to understand let’s just cut to the chase.
Is LSU planning to conduct a search for an AD with the intent of replacing Verge? That’s what this boils down to.
I am afraid that LSU intends to have Verge as it’s athletic director in a permanent role…even if it needs to play semantics to get there.

He can negotiate the contracts with the coaches and agents, but he won’t necessarily be the athletic director that they work for? So basically this title is meaningless.

No. They need to bring a REAL AD in this place and then hire a REAL Coach. A lot of great Coaches are still in the hunt so you’re not hiring anyone right now. Verge doesn’t need to hire anybody. He’s already been involved in enough decisions with this University. Do not let him hire our Coach.
