Ryan Theriot said you can throw 120. If it doesn't have movement the MLB will hit it. In the college game, he got away with it more.
Skenes has plenty of movement on his fastball, particularly the 2 seamer.

What was Floyd’s spin rate? Wasn’t it even higher?
I thought I remember it being something stupid like 3200. It was way higher than the average

I was coming to say the same thing. If he had Floyd's movement on the fastball, it would be sick!

I beg to differ on if a fastball can break up. I in no way had the speed of Skenes but I had a fast ball (that’s what I called it) modified from my four seam. It was a two seam using the ring finger and middle finger bent at the knuckles and thumb underneath. I would snap the wrist straight downward and pinch it out with the thumb. I would only throw it on the high heat pitch. LOL I could throw it a little lower than normal to entice a swing. It would break upward and they swing under it. If I made a mistake pitching it low it was often a deep fly or home run. I never said I was good, I was a center fielder that had to pitch because of lack of players. Only 12 on the team on a class B school that more people in our small school would play track and field. This school in Oregon was so small we played 8 man football and my class was 22 students. We had a girls first baseman who was six foot two.

His FB shape is also why we saw a lot of 2 seamers from him down the stretch.
yea, people aren't going to swing under it a ton, but with his control and arm side run, thats what made it so filthy to me. He would absolutely freeze guys and run it back over the plate and also get them to chase balls out the zone.

I thought he should pitch lefties inside more b/c of the run...i think he will do that more in the majors.

The Athletic Rates & Barrels podcast this week has a nice discussion on Skenes' TrackMan data.
Cliff's notes is what many of us have already seen all season: Yes, the fastball is flat and it can (will?) get hit at the MLB level, but Skenes offsets it with very good command and he throws it harder than an eight p*ckered goat in heat. Comp on his fastball movement only is Jesus Luzardo. HIs slider is very good (almost Ohtani good) and his changeup is possibly elite. HIs overall comp leans more toward Garrett Cole or David Price if he executes all three pitches and limits the damage that can be done to his fastball.
They REALLY liked Dylan Crews. His comp leans towards Pete Alonso if he grows into his potential power or Bryan Reynolds if he relies more on plate discipline, contact and speed.
Their opinion, not mine.

With all due respect to Ryan Theriot, he never saw people throwing at these velocities. When he played, there were maybe 20 guys that threw this hard, most of them were closers and were dominant.
If all you have is a 100 mph fastball, then yes today's hitters can put wood on it. Skenes has 4-5 legit pitches and a 2 seamer at 96-97 is fricking gross
ETA: Skenes is also gigantic so the 100+ mph FB is starting from a little closer than someone like Strider
