I don’t think Tiger Stadium needs to be able to fit 112,000 people but once every couple of years
The fan experience needs to be improved before trying to add more seats. Traffic, crappy bathrooms, uncomfortable seating, no cell service, very few amenities, are all preventing them from filling the stadium every week.
They did an interview with someone from LSU a little while back and WiFi for the stadium was brought up. The LSU official said that it was too expensive for 7 days a year. I think that’s an incredibly short-sighted way to look at it considering that you also make most of your non-tv profits on those 7 days.

New PMAC/Facilities is the goal.
It's always interesting to read facility threads on here as most fail to realize or acknowledge that there is a difference when it comes to what the fans want vs. what the coaches/players want and to an extent vs. what the administration wants.
Fans always want new and better facilities to enhance the fan experience and to brag to other fanbases that we have the best. And there is nothing wrong with that. It is a priority that fans should have.
Coaches/players care first about their everyday facilities such as locker room, lounge, training/practice facility, and medical/recovery facilities, along with ancillary things like housing, food, entertainment; and then 2nd is the actual facility they play in and that is more from a coolness perspective and conducive to a good playing environment.
Administration wants what will cost the cheapest while providing for the best return on investment, which means premium seating, premium seating, and premium seating.

1. Build Track and Field a new stadium (they’ve earned it. LSU is and will forever be a track and field school. They are wrecking shet this year. Likely to set new totals records.)
I don't disagree that T&F should get more attention than they do for all the success they bring to the school. Hell, it is the reason that Pat Henry left. But they have received new track surfaces and other upgrades to the actual part of the track the athletes care about. They couldn't care less about the fan seating or press areas of the stadium. What they do need and want are better training facilities, athlete lounge areas, and indoor track facilities.
quote:I get that most fans want a new facility; but upgrading the PMAC is more than feasible and can be done in such a way as to enhance both the experience for fans and players.
2. Build new PMAC/Basketball facilities where current track is. This will likely have input from gymnastics and volleyball ( unless they decide to keep them playing in the PMAC and make upgrades like that. DD still has pull here) as well, but the majority of the input will come from basketball woman’s and men’s.
But like Alt said, what the coaches/players want are major upgrades to the basketball training facility.
And whatever is done in regards to the PMAC or its replacement will bear in mind gymnastics' and volleyball's use of the facility.
quote:As has been stated by others, this is not needed. I would even argue that outside of doing more renovations to the corridors/concessions/bathrooms, there is not a whole lot left to be done to Tiger Stadium.
4. Finish closing in Tiger Stadium.
Seating in the stadium could probably be addressed in some way and if they ever do close in the North side, I hope it is for the purpose of maintaining the same number of seats, but just making them bigger and better seats spread throughout the stadium. Maybe throw in some damn cupholders in some places.
Eventually, I wouldn't mind seeing the West façade redone to get rid of the ugly eyesore that it is today because it does not at all match the aesthetic of the rest of the stadium architecture.

Unnecessary.
Maybe, but it’s inevitable. LSU Football is BIG money. More luxury boxes are a guarantee. Closing in the upper deck is Least intrusive And most economical way of accomplishing that
It’s not about seats. It’s all about dollars

What if anything has been done to the old dorms in the stadium?
I thought the old dorms were changed into offices or storage rooms. My Dad (1950'), who resided in one of the rooms in Tiger Stadium in the 1940s, showed me the location of his old room on a subsequent visit there years later. He told me that, years before, Huey P. Long wanted to build a stadium and went to the State Legislature to get one built. He was overruled in favor of dorms, so Governor Long built a stadium with dorm rooms in it.

I agree
Would it have been better to close in the Stadium and not build so high?
I never want to go to an LSU game and sit “up there”
Rather watch on tv, but that’s just me.

You could also upgrade food services to focus on Louisiana's best. Louisiana is known for good food not Aramark).
They replaced the windows and most of it is storage. To do a full renovation would be cost prohibitive for what you get out of it.

Would be cool to put a standing room area up there with a bunch of awesome local food vendors like food trucks, but we do not need more stands. Stadium should probably have fewer, but wider, seats installed actually.

How many people are choosing whether or not to attend a game based upon the quality of their wi-fi service? I don't think I've ever heard a single person say "You know, I thought about going to the game, but I'm not going to be able to scroll through facebook while there. I think I'm just going to stay home"
Would it be more convenient to have better service? Sure. But I suspect the the LSU official is right in that the costs (as least currently) don't outweigh the benefits. The ONLY potential caveat to that is gambling. That is, people who are at the stadium who want to make bets while the game is going on and can't. However, mobile betting has been available for awhile and I don't think had an effect on the crowd size.
Better and cheaper concessions could be a big help. But otherwise I don't know if there is all that much you can do increase attendance (other than making bar-like areas similar to what we are seeing in pro-stadiums). When I first started going to games maybe only 5-6 game were on widely available TV (the others were on PPV). Thus, unless you wanted to shell out money for PPV you HAD to go to the game to watch it. And once you were there you were more or less stuck until the end unless your small group of friends you were sitting with wanted to leave early. You couldn't call/text a friend on the other side of the stadium in the 3rd quarter and ask if they were ready to go. You had to make plans BEFORE the game as to where to meet up after. So most of the time you stayed until the end.
Now, EVERY game is on TV. Couple that with the fact the price of admission has risen significantly and the pain in the arse of getting to/from the stadium on game day, and many people have decided it is not worth the cost/hassle to attend. I'm not quite sure how you get those people back

Unfortunately, in 2021, more than you think.
People want to post the whole thing live on social media. And honestly, that's good for LSU marketing.
Other schools do this and their football programs make far less money than ours. We can make it happen.

They've had a hard time filling the north endzone for decades, why create more empty seats?
What's wrong with Bernie Moore, aside from being in a space that could be better served.

Should have left capacity at 78,000.
In the age of AC, HDTVs, every game being on TV and ungodly traffic, they have trouble filling in what they have now. And it’s not a hot ticket for most games because people know how easy it is to get a ticket. Too much supply lessens demand.
If a new basketball arena is built, capacity should be capped at 10,000. PMAC has the same problem as Tiger Stadium in that there are too many seats so the demand isn’t there.

I love what we’ve done with tiger stadium. I like how it looks like 3 or 4 different stadiums just welded together, and the south upper deck and the open north end zone is unique and still gives it a classic look. And no matter how big it is, the big games always draw great crowds. The UF 2019 game comes to mind—perfect night.

Curious if all those things will be finished on time.
