The history with the end of his tenure at LSU may weigh against us, but that will depend on how much of a grudge he holds on that. If he does at all, it may also hinge on who is still in the building, and how he perceived their involvement in what went down.
What the old saying? "You don't know what you've got till it's gone"?
Wade was forced out and the program completely tanked. I like to say LSU fired Wade to avoid the risk of the death penalty and, in the process, self imposed a death penalty by simply missing on the hire to replace Wade. What made things worse for LSU fans is they got to watch their former, popular, coach go to another school in the state of Louisiana just 2 seasons later an immediately have tremendous success. He tied the NCAA record for the biggest 1 year turnaround in basketball history all while LSU fans were watching their program deteriorate to a total afterthought. He's back in major college basketball again....and LSU fans are still watching the losses pile up.
A return to LSU immediately reenergizes the fanbase and school because they now have the unique perspective of seeing what things were like before he coached at LSU AND after. When you know what the "bad" looks like it generally makes you more appreciative of the "good". That makes the "buy in" more immediate and the "climb" less steep. Particularly when you consider how much basketball, and college sports in general, have changed since 2020. When Wade was at LSU previously his biggest bitch with the admin was a resistance to upgrade the facilities. The reason was because great facilities was the primary weapon in the college recruiting arms race. That era is over. And I think he's shown a "talent" for fundraising in order to pay blue chip players.
Wade didn't have a grudge with the fanbase. He didn't have a grudge with the donors. That's why despite being fired, he returned just a year later to coach in the same state and interact with people who are LSU fans. Many of the people in LC who funded his program at McNeese are also LSU fans. That's the nature of a state with one major school.
Whatever grudge he had with LSU would have been with the administration. An administration that has been replaced with new people. One of whom being his former boss. In some respects you can say Wade "won" in the end. Yes, he had a brief 3 year set back in his career trajectory. But he's right back at a power conf. school and contrary to what a few vocal ding-dongs think, remains as popular with LSU fans as ever. LSU on the other hand had its basketball program collapse and the people who choose to oust Wade were unceremoniously dumped out on their asses.
When Wade first came to LSU his introductory press conference was held to a good crowd in the student union. If you have been a fan of LSU basketball long enough you immediately felt an energy that had not been present since the peak of the Brown era. If LSU is able to hire him back the student union won't be big enough to hold the crowd for his introductory press conference. NC State is excited, happy to have him, and no doubt wants him to stay there for a long time. But you don't just forget 7 years of your life in another place.

If they want the LSU basketball fan base back quickly, you hire Wade. Anyone else, it's going to take a year or 2 to prove themselves.

Bring Back the General. I would buy season tickets.

Count me as one who does not think it's going to happen - but in the hypothetical world in which he would be - this is a FACT!!

Count me as one who will immediately buy season tickets if Wade is hired back. Any other coach, unless its some white whale (which I think is highly unlikely) and I will take a wait and see approach before pulling the trigger on season tickets. I sure do miss LSU basketball being fun.

Same here.
I had tickets during the Johnson and Jones tenures. I didn't renew after the Simmons season because (a) I knew the following season would just be a lame duck year which (b) made it easy to get tickets on the secondary market if I wanted to see a few games and (c) eliminated the obligation of feeling like a HAD to attend every game because I purchased season tickets. I jumped back in after hearing Wade's opening press conference because there was different sense of excitement coming from him and I thought it might be good to buy in "low" now in case this thing really takes off.
I kept the tickets after Wade was let go but ultimately declined to renew ahead of this year for all of the same reasons mentioned above. Chances are I'll likely renew regardless of who the new coach is. But if it is Wade I'm definitely back in because the atmosphere in the PMAC was a lot of fun. Hell, he managed to turn an otherwise meaningly NIT game vs. ULL into an intense atmosphere

I had season tickets since the end of the Brown years. Let them go this year. The cost to enjoyment ratio wasn’t working for me anymore.

That was one hell of a week, and a fantastic atmosphere in the PMAC. That’s one of the reasons people want him back- the fire he showed during those days is much needed now.

So you all think we are going to pay Wade's buyout at NC State, then pay him a hefty salary here?

Reliable source in the Louisiana basketball community with connections to McNeese say that CWW will be back in BR.
