I know both Andy and Matt and would be glad to have either one. When Riser was a player at Tulane coach Jones often said he was a coach on the field and was going to be a very good college coach. Andy is an excellent coach and great motivator. He may have only been coaching for 2 years but he's wise beyond those years.

cannizaro has it. whatever it is. he should be the guy, IMO.
the fact that everyone keeps saying that it'll probably be riser (he does have a better head coaching résumé, of course) just tells me that cannizaro should be the first choice. lsu fans know they have a great one, and are just trying to hold onto him for as long as they can. don't blame them.
Cannizaro has a pretty damn good baseball résumé himself. i think the dude is going to be a star.
Look, I love AC too. He's done a great job here as our hitting coach for 2 years. He would probably do well as a head coach but that's just a guess because he has absolutely nothing on his resume that would suggest he is ready for a head coaching job at a decent size school.
He's been a baseball coach for a total of 2 years. No level of coaching at all prior to that. To say with certainty that he would be this all star hire at this point is just ignorant.

Skip was great, but don't discount Rod Dedeaux at USC. He won 11 National Championships there and 5 in a row.

I happened to speak to Rick Jones and his brother in Nachotiches this weekend at the Hall of Fame Induction Cetemony and he thinks that Matt Riser would get the nod over Andy Cannizaro.
He did say that Cannizaro wants to eventually be a Head Coach. He talks to Cannizaro and also Skip Bettman on A daily basis.

Also, according to a couple of players I talked to after they were eliminated a couple of weeks ago, Allen Dunn will be back.

it is my opinion he will be a great coach. i think it would be a home run hire. a lot of very prominent writers are expressing the same opinion.
sorry if that's "ignorant."

AC will be a great head coach and it might be sooner rather than later, but what "prominent writers" are you talking about? Kendall Rogers is an absolute boob and runs with anything and inflates whatever he can whether it's on players or coaches. Sometimes it's right and sometimes it's wrong and at this point it's all speculation.

Word going around that AC has gotten the job, just not official yet

that seems quick. but if it's andy, i don't mind.

Has he even interviewed? Hard to believe based on what the weenie AD was quoted as saying in The Advocate today. Long story, short version, there will be several people on campus who will be involved in the interview process but there will not be a formal search committee. He also referenced several names, most mentioned here, as possible candidates. Good for AC if true but color me skeptical that he has the job already.

for anyone to "take" the job without some talk w/ the ad @ tulane is asking for trouble
you have to hear his numbers - your salary , your coaches salary, the budget, etc
both coaches - whether head or arse't - ac - know what they - slc & lsu have now & they have to compare it! how do uou travel, how much money - do you have to go get players, etc

I have heard from a couple people close to the program and/or heavily involved with collegiate baseball

I think Andy has a good chance to get the job but I'd say there's no way any decision has been made this quickly

I'm hearing from good sources that Dannen doesn't want anyone with Tulane ties. Hope they are wrong but it sounds like the AD wants to do a national search for something that's right in his backyard.
He went former NBA for his hoops coach, wonder if he'll get a washed up old pro coach?

Maybe they are swapping with Texas and getting Garrido to coach Tulane..haha
Seriously, I hope AC does not leave LSU as he has added some fire to this program. But, if he does leave who would be on our short list for hitting coach....Todd Walker?
