The defense just needs to trust their assignments. Overpursuit has killed this team over the last two seasons.

The Miami front 7 are worlds better than LSU. Those 2 DE's they have are dominant.

do y'all not remember the game? We were winning at half with the only thing keeping us in the game was defense. When you have an inept offense, the defense can only keep you in it for so long.

Not a better secondary but definitely a better DL especially at DE.

Hopefully Blake is taking notes. Miami went to Kyle Field and completely shut down the ATM offense with its running QB.

What did Miami do that we need to incorporate into our gameplans?

Reed was sacked 7 times in this game. Take his sacks out and sack yardage lost (30), and Reed ran 8 times for 57 yards, that's 7.125 per carry.

Against LSU he was sacked 0 times. Ran it 13 times for 108 yards, that's 8.3 per carry. Almost half of that on one play of 41 yards.

The disparity is not as bad as it may look when you look at the box score. Baker's defenses have often struggled with running QBs like Reed, but so have most teams. The key is not giving up long runs at critical junctures. I do think we need a deeper linebacker room with better linebackers as depth pieces.

Miami’s front 7 is much better than LSU’s this season. Having two dominant ends makes a huge difference

Yeah I think it has to do with personnel and what defense you run

LSU is in need of a sideline to sideline guy they can standup on the end

Would be nice to have a 30 mile an hour wind while on defense. Note 1

Baker needs to dial down the blitzing against running qbs, and our defense needs to maintain their assignments

Yep go back and watch. We drop 7-8 we likely beat A&M and Vanderbilt

Sorry but today he looks like a fraud compared to Miami’s DC.

It’s called better players and both teams had them.

On defense talent was an issue in 2024, but it was not this past year. We had a talented defense this past year. I would challenge you that either of the two teams we saw were significantly better that us as far as talent defensively. Hell, we scored 18 points in the first half against the Aggies!!

I think Baker is a good DC who had an Achilles heel with running QB's and maybe in the A&M game the kids may have quit on Kelly and Blake was collateral damage...I don't know.

We seemed to do better against Arky and Okie at the end of the year in regard to defending the running QB so maybe he made some adjustments as you would hope a good DC would?

Then please explain Miami’s defense holding ATM to 3 points today despite the Miami offense scoring only 10 points.

That logic doesn’t hold up in this scenario.

I mean I agree with your premise in general but Miami’s defensive performance today was head and shoulders above LSU’s performance against ATM. It didn’t matter that Miami’s offense was hot garbage.

was Miami Ofence 3 and hour almost every drive? No. If you can take time off the clock, it give the D life. If they get you the ball and they that turn around and have to go back in 30 seconds.....over and over....that's a problem

Eta: lol their running back had 170+ yards.

We haven’t had dominant DL players recently. We have had some good players, but no game changers on the d line.

With this D line haul, and if we get Dylan Stewart from South Carolina, I think that changes.

Stewart wrecks shite..,he would go a long way to making the defense elite.

That Elko blew his plan against the U. He had no run package for his QB.

He could of ran for 150 and 3 tds but he sat back and passed. Crazy.
