Seems like he hired the same Evaluaters that Malachi Dupree used......

At least Malachi had a Bowl game with INSANE numbers to swell up his head, to making him think he could be something special

But Ed Alexander? whutttttttt

I think it's a mistake like many. An LSU degree and being a huge Tiger would make a very good living for him too... and more than $500,000.

Because when he is in his late 20’s and his playing days are over he can’t go back to school and finish getting his degree? Or finish getting it while playing in the NFL.

This narrative they are choosing NFL over degree is false. They are choosing to play FOTBALL in the NFL over playing FOOTBALL in college.

Montgomery took a dive his last year. He told the NFL in interviews. Cost himself a lot of money being cool/stupid.

I doubt he was advised he would a high draft pick and he likely knows his draft stock.

Some of these guys need money. Some feel they should be paid for the work they do. I don't know his situation but I can't hate on a young man for trying to earn a paycheck.

His family is probably in need and he averaged about 9.3 injuries per game last season.

just my opinion... all these guys that declare early and not complete a 4 year schooling program, and who declare for the NFL draft, should be made to pay back to the university any scholarship money given to them

Well, that's just complete horseshite. College tuition, and the cost of college in general is a sham and ridiculously expensive for no apparent reason at all. But yea, let's make a kid pay back the 120k or so in tuition that his scholly covered because you disagree with him trying to go pro. Meanwhile, the football program (therefore the school), make tens of millions off of these players playing.

Just admit he fricked up.

Aside from the arrogance of judging someone else’s life, we can’t admit he “fricked up” because it is not
knowable. If he’s an UDFA now chances are he’d be that next year. This narrative that players can come back and magically boost their stock is something college fans tell themselves because they want the players to stay. The chances of that are remote. More than likely he won’t make the NFL for long anyway. LSU isn’t going anywhere so he can always come back and get a degree later

Heck who’s to say he’s just going to be on the practice squad. May not get drafted but could get on the team. Not the most common or easiest way but it happens, but why do any of y’all think y’all know all. And for the people laughing about 130,000 a year in money most of y’all probably still live with your parents. That’s good money not rich by no means but a solid life. If injuries are the issue him leaving this year or next really doesn’t matter not going to get much of a look anyway so might as well try to cash in as much as possible. Best of luck to Ed and frick these selfish motherfrickers that think lsu is more important than your family.

I bet he's hit again. That's the only way I see him going out.

I don't know what you do for a living, but $129,200/year would absolutely be life changing money for me.

I expect Mr. Alexander sees the depth chart next year to be more competitive than he wants. Figures his best NFL opportunity is now.

holy white privilege
I know that $129k is a lot of money, to everyone.

But I'm speaking relative to rookie contracts in the NFL. So what I meant was that you shouldn't leave early (absent extraordinary family circumstances) from college for that money, because practice squad numbers are dramatically limited and they're time-limited to 3 years max. Also, practice squad members frequently change, so you're not locked into a team's practice squad for a full year. You can get sent home any time.

Better to stay in school and try to improve your draft status and have a better chance to make much better money next year (just making an NFL roster yields a salary of about $500k, with a signing bonus too.

So of course, $129k is a lot of money, but when you only can make that for 3 years, and an NFL rookie on the roster can make $500k, I'd advise that players stay in school.

The conversation was about what would be the least amount of money he would make, not that he's only capable of being on a practice squad. Try to keep up.

130k is great money, but it’s not the kind of money that sets you up for life.

If he’s leaving because he only has a few years left in his knees then I think He has to do everything to maximize his base salary his rookie year.

Ifnhe played a full season and get drafted in even the 5 th round his signing bonus could be more than he makes in multiple years on the practice squad.

Ultimately if his knees are too bad to play another head to bump his nonexistent draft stock they probably aren’t good enough to play in the NFL or neon the practice squad.

I will start this off by saying he shouldn't leave. Now, as a former college football player, I can assure you he will pay for that scholarship in ways many of you will never know! The body takes a beating that pays for that scholarship. I played in the trenches like he does and in the long run he will pay more than most of you. So, before you cast stones and suggest they pay money back, know more of what you are talking about.

But, still 80k isn't an amount to sneeze at. It's really up to the individual.

If he lands on a team in California, 80k is nothing. Anything under 120k/year in somewhere like San Francisco is considered a low income. So yes, 80k, depending on where he plays, is an amount to "sneeze at." If he was living in Baton Rouge with that kind of money, sure, that's a nice, middle-class salary.

It's not life changing money anywhere, and IMO, it's not the type of money your throw away college for either. If his goal is to provide for his family and he has a limited shelf life due to his health, it's probably a wiser move to stay in school and focus on life after football because that life is what will provide for his family. I know he wanted football to save his family, and it still can because football got his foot in the door to college.

Eh, I don't know about that.

There's a significant difference in cost of living in San Diego as opposed to San Francisco. No city in the country is like SF.
