Marcus Spears has 4 career interceptions for 84 yards and 2 TDs. I feel like he doesn’t get talked about enough as an absolute freak in college.

Wasn’t Spears a tight end at some point? He was a really good athlete.

I’ll go with my high school classmate and say Anthony McFarland. Boog was enormous in 9th grade at 6’0” and 260. Just a beast but still a kid. What a great man he has turned into.

Booger was good in college and in the pros. He got him a super bowl ring too.

And was on the basketball team as a freshman before committing to just football.

I was thinking the same thing…Lavalais was a one-man wrecking crew!

Love Spears but Booger under Nick Saban would have been a household name in America.

Booger played some FB and caught a TD pass from the position. They were both great. Booger played inside; Marcus outside so comparing the two is a little apples-n-oranges.

ETA: both seem like class acts and great reps for LSU. IMO, I think Booger was a slightly better DT than Marcus was DE.

He and Marquise Hill were a great set of ends. Then Williams and Lavalais on the interior. That D was loaded.

Booger played sideline to sideline as a DT. He was a great college DL.

He played basketball on I think a state championship winning HS team and I think he wanted to play basketball in college as well. If I remember correctly, I remember Spears telling a story that he was told "yeah you can play both" when he was being recruited and then Saban calling his mom and telling her "I think its best if Marcus focuses on one sport".

He was laughing about it and then said that really, Saban did sit him down and tell him that he had to start thinking in terms of career. He if loved basketball for him to go play basketball, but the odds of him going pro was much better in football.

They played different positions. I loved the toughness of Booger. I remember the way he would taunt the Oline before big plays, then back it up. He would pace back and forth down the line of scrimmage while the other team broke the huddle in a very intimidating way. He had me ready to run thru a wall.

Booger for 1998
62 TT (52 solo), 18 TFL (86 yards), 8 sacks, 7 hurries and 1 FF

Booger did not register any pass defense stats.

Feel like Booger is the more professional, keep it corporate. Marcus will cut up a little more. Two different styles, I like em both.

For Booger being a national guy, he is fairly underrated as a LSU player. He was dominant on non dominant teams.

Spears was an athletic freak that played DE. He was great in hoops and played some RB in HS. Very good player on a very good defense in college.

They both had successful careers in the NFL

I have fond memories of watching Marcus on the SEC network in 2019. I like them both, though.
