re: Why didn't LSU fire Coach Miles and save the $20 million +

2019 wasn't simply a title run. It was the best season ever.
Damn straight. That’s why overall I’m damn happy with how it played out. I think the future looks bright too. O has shown himself to be considerably more “functional” than Miles IMO. He addressed the offense before the 2019 season and has again with Peetz. He had a DC who had a terrible first season and cut bait. Much more functional than the dolt who preceded him.

He controlled the BOS and dined regularly with Miles around BR. Now do you understand the reason nothing was done?

If Les has always been a horrible coach, what does that make our current head coach??

A lot of people gave his horrible coaching a pass because he was a “good guy”. Turns out not to be the case.

He has a degree in economics from one of the most prestigious universities in this country. He has been hired by three power five conference schools and is a millionaire many times over.
I think he was probably coherent at least some of the time. lol

Miles would have threatened to sue and LSU would have probably settled to make him go away
That's what we did 3 years later anyway

It wasn't hindsight, for many it was foresight and then a scandal after fleecing the school with Arkansas

But then we'd have lost Cam Cameron

Really sad--winning should not be at ANY cost.
Les Miles is the kind of "Once in Lifetime Coach" that any program would do just about anything to retain him.
And to think that lots of LSU fans were worried about MICHIGAN hiring Miles away from LSU - even after Lloyd Carr's disdain for Miles was already well-known.
LSU got scammed and fooled by Les Miles. LES MILES !! Let THAT sink in!
I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh. Miles is a good family man and a man of high character, as everybody knows.

Honest question. If we fire miles then, do we hire O? Do we have Joey B? Does the 2019 season happen?
Honest answer- Whoever it would have been at that time. You cannot bring up 2019, Burrow, etc. because it would have been different circumstances. Look, Miles was a shitty conservative coach, and if they knew he did something wrong, then fire with cause and save the buyout!! It was a total screw up by whoever made the call.
This is LSU, we would have got someone who could lead the program. Sure, those decisions got us to 2019, but you can't run a business or life on what ifs, you have to make good business decisions for the integrity of the program

Just because some has a college degree doesn't mean they're intelligent or have common sense. It just means they passed enough tests.
I can point to many examples, but here are two: in the engineering field, we hired a guy with a 4.0 GPA from a top engineering school, and he couldn't do a thing. Absolute idiot, but he sure could pass tests in college. The best engineer in our group was a guy who had a 2.5 from a small school in Missouri I'd never heard of. Seriously.
Another was in the legal field. Worked with a guy who had Harvard engineering and legal degrees. Complete moron who couldn't walk and chew gum. Was fired pretty quickly, and has jumped from job to job over the years.
But his academic resume was impeccable.

Just think of the options LSU had back then as replacements.....
all those wasted seasons: being tortured by poor clock mgmt, and power dives

I hate JBE but:
Is a fricking moronic statement.
I’m not saying JBE wasn’t on board, but
Bobby boy had his finger prints all over this.

go ahead and name all the amazing options in June 2013.
Cam would have been named interim for the season.
Our AD at the time has a history of just naming the interim as permanent HC.
so you can take an educated guess as to who our HC would have been.

Have common sense
My common sense tells me a man doesn’t graduate from Michigan with an economics degree, successfully maneuvers through the hiring process of three different power of five schools, gets paid millions of dollars, and is highly successful in his field without having some level of both intelligence and common sense but each to our own.

I'm only saying a college degree doesn't guarantee a highly intelligent person, or a person with any common sense.
And I saw plenty from Miles over the years that made me question what was going on in his mind. Repeated inability to manage the clock. Calling timeout after a punt. And just listening to his jibberish when interviewed.
It was cute and quirky at first, until most of us came to understand something was way off.
LA recruiting sustained him for awhile, but then the decline. And then of course we saw at Kansas what he can do without 4 and 5* talent.
