One of the biggest reasons is that when there was a glaring issue, such as the offensive production or the performance of a player or coach, he would address that issue publically and let everyone know that he is aware of it, and that it would be taken care of.
Miles on the other hand, when asked about the offense for instance, says, "Oh I think Crowton is doing a great job, and the offensive line is really doing a good job, it just is hard to see during the game, but on film they are real close to being great."
One of my biggest issues with Miles is the consistent things like the same penalties over and over again from game to game to year to year. Also the many game management issues (Not limited to the 09 Ole Miss game), and just the overall impression I get from him versus the impression I had of Saban. Right or wrong, that is how I feel about it.

Were you on this Board when Saban was here? Obviously not since the Saban haters were just as bad then as the Miles haters are now.
Saban's last 2 years weren't as bad because a) he won a national championship followed by b) a highly rated recruiting class.

he did. its just that people now choose to forget about his failures.

If I had a dollar for everytime Songy said, "That Big 10 crap won't work down here" during Saban's first 2 years here I'd be on td.com for more than half a day.

Because, before Saban LSU had little success.
Anything good Saban did was recognized, and the bad things did not stand out, because bad things were normal.
Before Miles, there was much success. Anything good goes unrecognized. Anything bad stands out.

So why did EVERYONE love saban when he was here and not miles?

He did.
i personally thought he was a mediocre game day coach. plus a lot of the offensive issues were blamed on Jimbo's up the middle all the time offense.

Miles is 3-2 vs Alabama and 3-2 vs Ole Miss. Saban was 4-1 vs them.
Saban was 2-3 vs Florida, as is Miles. Saban was 3-2 vs Arkansas as is Miles.

Time has a way of fading memories. As I recall, the UAB game in 2000 had folks screaming for blood. The thing that calmed everyone down in a hurry was the huge OT victory over TN, I think in the very next game. Nick also took tons of heat for the horrible game against 'Bama in '02 and the bizarre loss at Ark. the same year. If he had been staying on after the Iowa loss there would have been severe heat over that, not just for the last-play loss but for not playing JR earlier in the game. Time does change perception quite often.

Saban also had a winning SEC record in every season. Miles set the current tone with LSU's 3-5 SEC record last season along with poor on the field showings this year.

catastrophe syndrome. do you think saban started saying that because people did not worry about the bad things that happened?
saban was getting killed on a regular basis. its just after the fact that some people think he never lost a game.

When LSU got beat by Ga in Athens (04) when Saban was here, this place was in meltdown mode. It was insane to see how people came out of the woodworks complaining about how he talked, "aight" and saying he lost it and that we are now a job that everyone wants so he should go. And when we lost to Arkansas, well, lets say that it was about the same as Miles got when we lost to Ole Miss this year.

Saban's last year at LSU sucked. He had an inexperienced quarterback as we did this year. this year has yielded more wins than saban's last year plus a chance at the same bowl with a better record.

2004 LSU v. 2009 LSU...who ya got?

I think you are confused. LSU in 2004 was 9-2, 6-2 SEC at this point in the season. LSU in 2009 is 9-3, 5-3 SEC. The 2004 team also ended the regular season on a 6 game winning streak with wins over Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas. It's also the season that Auburn got to re-kick an XP for a one point win in Auburn.

Why do so many LSU fans appear top have amnesia about the true events of 2004? Posts like this occur time and time again on this site. It's an odd phenomena.
Just to refresh everyone's recollection, LSU went 9-2 during the regular season during Saban's final season. The 9-2 regular season record was actually better on a percentage basis than our 9-3 regular season record this year. Our 6-2 SEC record in 2004 was better than our 5-3 SEC record this year (and certainly vastly better than our 3-5 SEC record last year).
