How else would you shape it?
If it just uses straps it's more likely to shift around. The sports bra shape is extremely form fitting to reduce sensor movement for higher accuracy data, while also being as small and compact as possible to prevent reduction in range of motion and limit skin coverage to reduce increased heat fatigue.
If you are worried that it looks like a female undergarment then you are just an insecure bitch that cares about their ego more than being the best of the best.

I actually work in this industry and I am a former athlete, they track data like how much force and power is being applied all throughout practices. Usually guys are wearing shirts under them is probably why you haven’t noticed it.
