Pre-market rise and fall daily

Just wondering what your opinions are as to what's causing the daily pre-market rise of a lot of high-flying stocks and immediate reversals as soon as the market opens? Is it institutional buying in pre-market vs. individual selling once the market opens?

I mean the obvious answer is earnings... Are you saying something outside of the obvious?

Hedgies have to get their nut early by stealing from the little guys.

Pre-market trading feels as speculative as penny stocks to me, haha. It’s the one time window where I’ve felt the most market manipulation and had the most “tin-foil hat” thoughts. I might look at it as an indicator of the day, especially if there’s fresh news on a stock or overall market, but for the most part, that’s a swing-trading pool I tend to avoid.

At 6 AM the Dow Jones futures were up about +70 points. When the CPI numbers were released at 7:30 AM the futures went to +232 points.
As I post this the DJ is at +460 points.
If you're saying the DJ doesn't jump up immediately at the opening, then that's true since trades have to made to change the indices. Trades don't happen the split second the market opens. It takes a few seconds to record the trades and update the indices. All indices start the day at what they closed at the day before so the change is zero for a few seconds.

No, not necessarily today although I did see a similar happening today. It seems for the past week or so I'll see my total stock holdings up 2-3% pre-market, and immediately upon the opening bell it will plummet down to no gain sometimes before trending higher during the day.
