i collect those guys . . . .every month when i cash in my collected change i request hard to find currency. $2bills, fiddy cent pieces, and dollar coins is what i request from the bank teller. they usually look at me surprised as if i handed them a stick up note. 9 / 10 times your bank will have them though.

Those $2 bills, dollar coins and half dollars will stay in your drawer/tray for weeks before someone requests them for the novelty. It's actually welcome to request them unless you're asking for a good amount of it, in which case they're going to have to hunt those down from wherever they've been hiding.

2 dollar bills were used a bunch back in 1986 at Turf Paradise Thoroughbred race track in Phoenix. I had a bunch of them!

Having traveled to many countries that use one and two dollar coins I've never understood why the US resists using dollar coins. They are so damn convenient. The long term cost savings from using coins instead of paper are well documented. Now that many if not most people carry debit cards instead of cash it would seem a good time to make the switch but I'm convinced dollar coins will never fly in the US.

I think the reason for the problem with the SBA dollar coins were that they were too similar to quarters in look and feel.

I thought that the Sagagawea coins would have been a good dollar coin, but since BEP continued to churn out Washingtons, there was never a real need or want to change.

I would be all for getting rid of the penny (have all transactions rounded to the nearest .05) and replace the folding dollar with a coin.

I've never used the coin pocket in my jeans until I went to Italy earlier this year. Perfect for 1 & 2 euro coins.

Any bank worth it's salt should be able to get new or fit $2 bills as well as 50 cent pieces as well as dollar coins.

Any bank can order them and get them, but they have to order a minimum amount. It is a pain in the arse to order and hold $2000 in 2's or $1000 in dollar coins if someone only wants $200 of the 2's and $25 of the dollars.

I went to a three banks last week and got a total of $10.00 in $2 bills. I did get around $40.00 in half dollars, which are usually really scarce.

Makes sense that they will not place a small order and be stuck with $2 bills.
