Privates actually leave LHSAA they will be the ones to suffer. LHSAA schools would not be allowed to play them
That's why I am really interesting to see what the Orleans Parish Charters (Karr, Easton, Walker...) and the Jefferson Parish schools do. Not playing the private schools would be a major blow to their revenue.
The Bishops have a released a statement-
"The Bishops of Louisiana have approved the formation of a task force to continue looking into all options when it comes to the future of Catholic high school athletics. The task force will continue to meet in the coming months. By no means does this mean the Catholic schools of Louisiana have closed the door on LHSAA membership, nor has there been a commitment to any one future plan. The task force will be working for what is in the best interest of the student-athletes in Catholic schools throughout the state."

Karr
Haven't been to a Karr home game in a few years. They used to pack the place no matter who they played.

Their crowds have been the biggest when they play Walker or St. Aug.

I am NOT for the split,

Never... but I'll live with it if we're guaranteed to be able to play our rival, after a mess other schools caused

In the end what does it really matter if they give out 5 more State Titles than they used to have??

Karr and L/W do quite well at home (Behrman), if video on FNF is to be believed; they don't cross the river too well, though. I'm a Catholic League dad (Kids are bandsmen) and live butt-up against East Jefferson. The visitor side at Yenni, sometimes has a few people, but for the most part, it's nearly empty except for bands and dance teams, and a few football parents. It's all rather disheartening, to tell you the truth. As for home crowds, E.J. draws all right, but the rest of them? Not so much,
See the same thing at Tad Gormley from some of these schools.

What I read here is: If it makes financial sense, no point in hanging around in the LHSAA!

People keep mentioning let the private schools go, blah blah. If they leave, it is the inner city public schools that will suffer the most. Have you been to a game between Tara and Belaire at Olympia? 30 people are there. Catholic vs. Tara and they split the gate. It will kill inner city schools like Capitol, Tara, etc. Schools like West Monroe or Neville it won't but those schools have expressed interest of leaving and joining the select schools

Capitol, Tara
Glen Oaks, Broadmoor, Capitol, Belaire have all been pretty much dead for the last 5 years.
Only public schools in Baton Rouge that have decent programs are Woodlawn, McKinley and Scotlandville. The first two want nothing to do with the last one

They also played them at City Park in the regular, LF and Speedy's senior year. Game was on TV it was just as crowded as Jesuit v Brother Martin.

True.
How often, however, does a Leonard Fournette or Speedy Noil come along? Let alone, in the same year?
I'm a BM dad, and I've seen both sides of this. I've seen even McD 35 not have that many folks in the stands at Tad Gormley, and they always play a tough, entertaining game.
BM hosted Glen Oaks a few years ago at Pan American, and G.O. had, literally JUST the band. I realize it's a inner city public school in Baton Rouge, but damn, that's brutal.

One year before I was even in high school I went to a Brother Martin-Booker T Washington 1st round playoff game. The score was 28-0 before BTWashington's band got off the bus. It was 35-0 before they were in the stadium and seated. The band doubled the number of people on their sideline.

So 12-15 schools get together and play a 12 week season then play same 12 teams again in Playoffs?
Say you get 12 teams. You have a 12 team conference, with 2 six team divisions. Football plays 10 games - 5 division games and 5 non-division games (can be teams in the other division or outside the conference). Top two teams in each division advance to a four team playoff.
Basketball you play everyone in your division home and away, a single game against the teams in the other division, that's 16 games, and then you play a dozen or so games against other teams from LHSAA or other conferences.
Baseball/softball you play a similar schedule as basketball.
You could do other things as well. You could have a quiz bowl league, band competitions, etc.

LHSAA school will not be allowed to play teams in Louisiana not in LHSAA. What you want is already in effect now because of split. Private schools can play regular season against whoever they want in regular season then once playoffs start they will be in same division. Look at 5A Select bracket.

There are several points you are missing here...
1) If the LHSAA did ban their schools from playing other schools - a ban that would end up in court if they actally tried that, but even if they won - that ban will hurt the public schools a hell of a lot more than the private schools. You think public schools will line up to play West Monroe out of district in football? Barbe in baseball?
2) The select playoff system has to be approved, and is dictated by, the LHSAA. The select schools do not get to decide their own championship system.
3) The select schools (with the exception of the Catholic League) are not allowed to decide their own districts. They have to play where they are told to play. You might even see some pressure to break up the Catholic League, since the publics now realize they have all the power.

1. It is already a rule that member schools cannot play in state schools not is LHSAA. You can play out of state schools in Tournaments that don't count on your record.
2. Already approved and voted through twice.
3. Publics don't choose their districts either.
