Here's a short video clip of some of the highlights from that 2011 play. It doesn't include the play I mentioned, but Lundquist also says "Oh, no!" when Eric Reid wrestles an interception away from the Alabama WR at the goal line.

He's an Alabama homer, whether or not you can see it.

Lundquist is an Alabama homer. I'll never forget that play in the 2011 game, when Jefferson completed a pass to the Bama 10 hard-line. Lundquist yelled out, "Oh, no!"
People keep bringing this up as evidence that he is an Alabama homer. It's just nuts. It obviously wasn't said in that manner but I'm not going to convince anyone. It's just ridiculous that so many people seem to think that, though.

Isn't it amazing that Verne and Gary can simultaneously love and hate every team in the SEC?

Might want to tell that to Alabama fans. They seem to disagree

In fact look at this.... They hate Aubrn, no wait, they LOVE Auburn. Why do these guys hate Georgia so much? You can't even watch Alabama game because these guys hate Alabama!!!

LINK

Bottom line. Fans are idiots. They hear what they want to hear

Just listen to how much Verne hates LSU!!!!

LINK

But he REALLY hates Georgia

LINK

No actually, he just hates Alabama

LINK

Or maybe he just really LOVES Bama and UGA and is mad at Auburn

This. Fandom makes a smart person dumb. It's sad because for the people who don't like them because of some perceived bias, they're missing out on the best booth duo of all time. Subconsciously I think they enjoy Verne and Gary because that's the beauty of broadcasting, it's the little things you don't notice that you enjoy without knowing it

Dude, they're up there

Individually they're among the best at their jobs (Verne has gotten old but I think he is the all time goat. I think Gary is the goat football play by play now and among the best of all time), they gel well together, and it enhances the experience

Actually they're the best

Verne still has the voice but he acts like an old man. Danielson has no peers in any sport in any medium as a color commentator

Totally agree. Even though Verne has had extremely difficult time keeping up with the pace of the game for the better part of the last decade, I still love his voice, and it's going to feel really weird with him not calling the afternoon SEC game on CBS when that time comes.

Danielson is a phenomenal color commentary guy, and I never cease to be amazed at what he sees on the field. He, Collinsworth and Blackledge are the three best color guys in sports right now.

I have no idea why people think these guys care one way or the other about the outcomes of these games, especially someone like Danielson who is from Detroit, played his college ball at Purdue, and played professionally in Detroit and Cleveland. His son played college ball at Northwestern.

The notion that he's somehow a [insert SEC school] homer is laughably absurd.

Is this another one of those Lunquist hates (my team) threads?

I read on this site how people hate Aikman and Joe Buck?

They're right. Along with Collinsworth, they're some of the most smug announcers in the business. Gary walks a very fine line in that regard, but he's one of my favorites. Aikman, Buck, and Collinsworth go over the line too often for me, to the point that it takes away from my enjoyment of the game at times.

Airman may not be terrible on his own, but I lump him in with Buck, and Buck is bad enough for both of them.

Verne's nose looks like a penis and a set of testicles.

What does anyone think of Tom Hammond as an announcer? I have a soft spot for him because he would do some of the LSU games back when Raycom had them in the 80's. Now I seem to mostly hear him during the Olympics. It's weird - that's some of the biggest audiences ever, but I think most people barely know who he is.

I thought Mrs. Doubtfire always did a pretty good job on ND football. I think they limit him to the ponies now.

I happen to think they do a good job. Danielson has some good analysis and insight. Verne can be a litte vexacious here and there but not
to the point that it warrants a thread like this... and theyve always called LSU Bama

If I were keeping track of such BS, I'd guess this is approx. the 1002 thread about it.

If CBS would put Verne to pasture and find Gary a legit PbP guy, it would be one of the best in football. Gary is great and is overshadowed by Verne.
