I think they made their goal winning the division, and once that took place, it is natural to relax to a degree. They needed some veteran leadership to step up and tell the team that the goal was to win the World Series, and not the division. You’d like to think that professional baseball players would understand this, but they totally took their foot off of the gas, to the point we were stressing big time in a three game series against the fricking Marlins, who didn’t have Alacantra. We all hoped that the time off would give them a rest and allow them reset the goal, but it didn’t happen. The one game the Braves won could have gone either way. They beat the piss out of the Braves in the other games. They rallied in game one, but for the other eight innings it was arse.

None of this is new though. We all bitched and complained about the same shite all year long. Morton/Anderson sucked most of the year, Fried was either really good or bad, Wright looked good most of the time, and Strider was a big and very welcome surprise. Minter was solid all year, as was Igelasias when we got him. Jansen was a roller coaster until the last two weeks, and he was lights out after that. Lee/Smith were terrible. Matzek was hurt. McHugh was solid. I’m glad we got Chavez back.

Dansby looked like shite for two months, got white hot, slipped off, got hot again, and slipped way off at the end. Olson looked lost until the last few week. Riley post-contract or kid was really bad. Acuna was a shell of himself. Harris was a huge boost to the team, but slipped off at the end. Left field was a disaster with Rosario/Grossman/Ozuna. Ozuna is just plain bad this year. We all missed Albies in a bad way. Grissom did a nice job for a kid, but it eventually caught up to him.

We will see where this team ends up over the winter. It should be interesting.

SS, Acuna, and Soroka are the biggest question marks.

No idea what they’ll do at SS, but strongly doubt it will be Grissom. I don’t think he will ever be anything more than a fill in at SS in the majors.

Acuna and Soroka regaining form would be huge. I’m personally just hoping Soroka can stay healthy and be back of the rotation guy next year.

Don’t think they’ll do anything SP wise with bringing back Morton, Soroka being back, and it’s time for Mueller to get a shot.

We could upgrade LF but my guess is they’ll go the Duvall type of route.

Catcher is interesting. Have Darnaud, Contreras, and Pina.

Other than SS, my guess is they spend more money in the bullpen than anywhere else.

Snit re-stated the “division as goal” in his post-game presser yesterday and it nearly made me want to throw a brick through my TV.

Well, it certainly showed. That is shite. A manager has to set that tone, especially on a team without strong veteran leadership. I would love to have some inside knowledge of how everything came together so well last year. Who was it that drove that team to look for more than the division?

There’s a lot of truth there. I don’t hate the Braves and a rematch would have been fine with me. But they have to see the Division as step 1 along the way. I know in every Astro player interview I’ve seen, they all have a singular goal. They see WS as their goal. Every other thing is just a step along the way to get there.

Seems like it was Joc and Ozzie. We had the talent, Joc brought that WATMF energy and Ozzie is the heart and soul.

My guess would be Joc as well. That is one of my biggest gripes about this season, not signing him. He went for $6 mil to SF. Eddie Rosario was signed for a two year deal for $18 mil. After losing Freddie we needed another strong veteran in the clubhouse.

He took less money to go home.

I want to thank Sorantable for starting this thread. I hope we can keep it alive during the offseason.

So what's everyone's wish list?

1a. re-sign Dansby
1b. deGrom
2. Correa - put him at 3rd and move Riley to LF
3. Package Ozuna in with some pitching and get out of the contract - assuming Wright and Stridor are untouchable (I know most of you will include Fried, but this is my wish list and I'm not sold on a long term deal for him)

Real wish list would be Turner over Dansby but not sure that's realistic. But I'd take a guy who can get on base and create runs over a streaky hitter.

Yeah, I've been saying I'd love Turner. But this is assuming we can get Dansby for cheaper.

Baseball in the playoffs is always about the streaky team. The key is to put yourself in a position enough times that you break thru once in a while. That’s what the Braves, Astros, Dodgers, and now Yankees have done. The Braves have a nice window of years to get “streaky” like they did last year. The best team rarely wins unlike in football and hoops. We’ll see who stays hot for another 2 rounds.

Acuna/turner
Turner/acuna
Olson
Riley
Darnaud
Contreras
Duvall/ozuna
Albies
Harris

Would be a pretty solid lineup

Jansen is coming off the books for 15 million. Does AA give Danbsy 6 for 150?

I think with Correa and Turner hitting the market, Dansby might go cheaper, but who knows. I don't think Grissom is the answer.

I know this isn't popular, but I am sick of Acuna. He is cheap, he is a superstar, but he is TO. Him not running for that ball is a perfect example. I know it will never happen though.

We need Muller to hit. And hope Soroka comes back.

This is why Atlanta can never have nice things most of the time. The fans here don't know how to embrace superstars.

He's not. He projects as on OF'er.
