Second goal was beautiful... what soccer SHOULD be. Unfortunately, the first goal is what soccer most often is, and what Americans don't like: just kick the ball into a crowd and hope for the best. Americans are spoiled by American football, which employs far more tactics.

I think it's OK to do a little. It worked fine against Spain. When you have a keeper of Tim's quality and the backs that we do, you can afford to a little. I don't mean a complete shell, or anything, but you don't need to get too aggressive at this point and give up a counter attack or something stupid like that. JMO.
Brazil can score in a flash better than anyone else.
Keep confident pressure, strong counterattacks, but our defense has to keep playing its game.
Completely sitting back is going to just invite goals, and too many teams do that against Brazil just because they are "Brazil." That's why they win all the time.

Alright, here are my thoughts on the first half.
Great start for the Americans. Spector has had some truly great crosses into the box in this tournament. His pass to Dempsey was a lot like the pass that led to Dempsey's goal against Egypt. I've been wanting him to play at left back so Cherundolo can play his natural position, but if he is always this dangerous, he should stay at right back.
Davies is very quick and start some great counter-attacks. However, he has a pretty mediocre touch on the ball and has a tendency to dribble himself into corners with three defenders. I'd like for Cooper to get a shot at his position in the second batch of qualifiers. He gave a great pass to Donovan though, and that might have been the difference maker.
Onyewu and DeMerit are playing really solid in central defense. They are winning the balls in the air and limiting the effectiveness of Brazilian corner kicks.
Feilhaber had a crucial turnover in the last minute that almost led to a goal, but otherwise, he has done a nice job filling in for Bradley. He's a little too offensive-minded to play that position full time, but that's okay since Jones will be eligible pretty soon.
Donovan has been awesome again. He is definitely the most talented player that the US has ever produced.
Altidore has been alright so far. He just needs to learn how to jump without moving his arms up so much. With certain referees, that will lead to a lot of turnovers.
Howard has been the man of the match so far. I don't see any reason for substitutions right now for the US. If Dunga is not a moron, he should take out Andre Santos and put in Alves immediately.

Dunga is a moron for not playing Dani Alves.

Well, yeah, I don't mean completely going into a shell, keeping all 11 guys near the box, or anything like that. Just avoid trying to do too much and make a stupid mistake.

So I'm assuming Jones will take Clark's spot. I don't know anything about Jones other than what I've heard on here...but why is he so good when he could barely ever play on the German team? Just wondering

you have no idea what you are talking about
that first goal was as difficult as they come
the ball was placed perfectly at dempseys feet from spector, who, if you really knew anything and watched enough, would know that spector has been doing this EVERY GAME.
and running towards a ball and then making it go the opposite direction is such a gentle touch man, you really have no idea what you are talking about.
