Here's a stat for you from last season. Iowa plays Indiana this weekend. Indiana had more plays of 30+ yards against OSU than Iowa gave up all season. Iowa has the national streak of holding all opponents under 25 points for the last 22 straight games.

My point is some BIG teams still play defense.

This is another example of how terrible the Big Ten is outside of OSU is.

Ummm, UW, PSU, Iowa would not be fiving up those plays.

Minnesota does not represent the B1G.

Edit: Iowa is a good program and plays good hard nosed football but can never overcome.

Let’s start tearing up ACLs folks. Nearly impossible to hit high anymore.

Yup. He did make contact with the helmet, but he didn’t launch or anything. Hell the WR ducked to start bracing for contact because he noticed the hit coming in that split second.

If you want to flag every hit where helmet contact was made, there going to be flags all game.

Of the 3 angles, only the one, which was from behind the defender and doesn’t really show whether contact was made between helmets appeared to like helmet to helmet.

So if it was targeting, I think it was purely due to being defenseless.

I guess the replay refs couldn't rule out spontaneous loss of consciousness as a possibility so they went with the call on the field.

But how many times have refs kicked out players for much less? Just utter bullshite calls. That’s my issue with the whole targeting deal. The refs are fricking awful at consistency with it

If targeting is going to be a rule, you have to call that hit targeting.

I targeted all the time playing safety growing up - nearly every game, so I don’t love the rule. By the rule though, that hit was clearly targeting.

Dude was knocked the frick out.

"If it was targeting...."

Never seen a guy get knocked out from a hit to his shoulder.

comical

You act like he had 5 seconds to line up the hit. It was a bang bang timing for fricks sake.

You’re going to have helmet contact on those types of hits all game long.

Must have been the air concussion hitting him like an explosion.

None of this matters. The receiver there is “defenseless” therefore any hit to the head or neck area is targeting.

You don’t have to like the rule, but by the way the rule is written, that’s an inexcusable missed call.

The timing has always been immaterial to targeting.

Show me all those other hits that aren’t called targeting. But like I said earlier, does anybody even know what targeting is anymore with these refs these days?

If CJ can develop, this Ohio State offense is going to be god like. Every other position group is loooooaded.

Until he runs into a FBS-calibar defense. Even Terrell Pryor could put up 300 yards a game in the Little Ten. Ohio State is a great team, but they're the big fish in a small pond.

Not an OSU fan at all. But that wasn't targeting. I have no idea how you can expect defenders to be perfect on a bang bang play when the O guy is also lowering his head. RBs lower their head running through the line all the time. Every time a RB us about to make contact they lower their head. I mean, at some point that's just part of the game. There is risk. Don't like it, don't play football.

He's not defenseless when the replay clearly shows he sees the guy coming and lowers his shoulder and his head bracing for contact.

The guy had all intentions to hit his helmet rather than tackle him.

You can make helmet contact, just not on a defenseless player. This was definitely targeting.
