don’t want Story. Not at his asking price. I’d rather get extensions for Ted and Yordan.
Absolutely

Go ahead and lock up those young players

I don’t think they let Springer walk with the intention of signing Correa. They didn’t seem to want to a long-term deal with Springer, same as they didn’t seem to want to do it with Correa. This owner doesn’t seem to want long-term, high-dollar contracts on the books.

I agree with that philosophy.

Yeah, definitely a scorched earth deal
Pride got the best of him.
Astros must be really high on Pena. Springer was also injury prone and they obviously made the right decision there.
The biggest obstacle moving fwd will be morale. Puts a ton of pressure on Pena to fill the void, but bigger yet will be the lack of leadership on the field
We don’t have any other leaders out there. Maldanado seems to want it, but nobody’s listening to his approach at the plate. LOL

If, big if, Meyers comes back as himself in CF, Pena plays solid SS, and LMJ pitches from ASB to the end of the year with last year’s numbers, there will be a negligible difference in the Astros odds to make WS

In a vacuum, I do, too. Once the CBA got done and the CBT goes up, I wanted the Astros to sign Correa, whatever it takes. Prisoner of the moment. And that’s why I’d be a horrible GM or owner.

Correa isn’t worth on the field what he wanted to be paid. Teams that stay at the top for a long time don’t give out those contracts. Teams that remain relevant for a long time are the teams that find value. They find players that are worth more on the field than they’re being paid. Flexibility is extremely important in making moves to improve the team and stay at the top of baseball both now and well into the future. It’s not popular with many fans, but it’s smart management.

They seem to be. My concern is, will FODB pull the same shite he did with Meyers and not let him play everyday? I guess I shouldn’t worry too much as Diaz will sprain something while brushing his teeth and Pena will have to play.

Spot on. Correa had really established himself in that area. I really appreciated his ability to settle a struggling pitcher down. Plus, owning the villain role was huge. I thought at one time Bregman could fill that role but he’s been moping and injured for two years now.

I don’t think he’s ever recovered from that four-man bobsled injury.

Speaking of, y'all ready for Kyle Tucker to keep hitting 6th this year?
Posted on 3/19/22 at 10:06 am to wahoocs
I think there is a ton of pressure on Bregman to fill the void in the lineup and in the clubhouse. I wanted no part of some of 10 year deal for Carlos but I’m a little disappointed they didn’t want to match this shorter deal. Regardless I think Pena is promising

Is Pena gonna be the starting SS on opening day?

Agreed…but do we trust that Crane and Cluck will be able to do this?

Dusty Baker said this morning that Jeremy Peña is the frontrunner for the Astros’ shortstop job. Aledmys Díaz will get some reps in spring training, too.

I'd rather roll with Pena than spend big on Story. His numbers outside of Coors field are shite. Save that money for Yed and Ted

Pena walking into camp this morning

Yeah for sure. Story doesn’t make sense at all to me
