Why wouldn’t they be?

Is it worth it to spend a couple billion dollars to try to host a single Super Bowl and two Final Fours (if you’re lucky)? That’s not a financially prudent decision unless you own all the hotels and merchandising licenses as well. It’s a losing endeavor.
Pretty soon, these venues will be a dime a dozen. Hell, they might be already. Just yesterday we were treated to the treasure that is Cowboys Stadium.
Since that opening, we’ve seen 4 other massive stadiums come along, and that’s not a knock on the ones that were already around, like Arizona and Indy.
Example:
The Final Four’s last sites were San Antonio, Glendale, Houston, New Orleans, Indy, Atlanta, Minneapolis. They have sites secured through 2031. That includes Indy (twice), Detroit, Vegas, Arlington, and Atlanta. San Antonio is voting on a deal to build a new arena and upgrades to the Alamodome. That would keep them in the mix. Add in the other new stadiums on tap, then you potentially have 14 stadiums in the rotation.
You can run the same methods for the Super Bowl.
Building a venue with the intent of hosting a singular event is about as dumb as third world countries building hosts of stadiums for the World Cup or the Olympics.

Retractable roof (so a dome)
I wish we’d stop with these. Sports, with the exception of basketball and hockey, should be outdoors. You could even argue hockey should be outdoor.

supposed to be ready by 2031 and supposedly fully funded by the Walmarts (we’ll see about that one).
What will be finished first? This stadium or the BR interstate widening project? I put all my money on the stadium. All of it.

Boom. Clocking ticking for me to visit their current stadium. Doing Buffalo this year, at last minute.

Are you in the business?

Are we gonna have a Ryan Clark situation here?

It’s never fully funded by owner

Yes.

Yes it is.

don’t go to a sporting event, especially football, to be comfortable
You’re in the extreme minority and likely never go to events anyways.

You build a dome so you can have year round events like concerts, basketball, etc.
A place like Denver that stadium is virtually unusable outside of football season so basically mid January through June. Put a dome on it and it makes taking care of the grass a lot easier also. All of a sudden you go from 10-12 football games to 30+ events a year.
Not sure why this is so hard to understand for certain folks.
US Bank Stadium (Vikings Home) has over 100 events per year at their facility, if it were up to purists (those who want to see elements while watching from home) the events held at the stadium would be significantly less and would go unused once football was finished.
Lucas Oil Stadiium holds over 200 events annually at their facility.

Maybe, but it’s even dumber to spend that kind of money and build a stadium that CAN’T host a Super Bowl

Cold weather football is something that does not need to go away
Good thing, because that's not what retractable roofs are for. They are for inclement weather that does not allow the "best product" for the fans, be it those in attendance or those watching on TV.

No, but to say that these builds are not financially smart, while we’re seeing them pop up more often goes against logic.

Walton-Penner wants to own their own facility and get the revenue from it, which they don't currently do at Empower Field.
If they fully pay for it, who cares?

That’s a separate discussion. They can do what they please with their money, and if it’s fully funded, that’s a huge W for the taxpayers.

Hopefully they make sure there are no missing Israeli nukes before they have a Super Bowl there.
Loved how the two teams in that SB were the Vikings and the Chargers. Even then they couldn't catch a break.

Atlanta got screwed because the tournament was canceled due to COVID in 2020.

At least the Waltons have enough to pay for it, but I like open-air football in Denver.
All of those games in the 70's in the elements were great. I'm glad I was around to see it, great memories. All of those games in Minnesota and Detroit outside were great. Sadly, we lose more outdoor stadiums every few years.

You mean the sport that was literally invented on frozen ponds outside?
