Looking back it seems so painfully obvious but at the time I thought they were just juicing the balls or whatever and letting them use corked bats. Then all the bonds shite happened and I was like, damn how did I not see that

amen. Steroids or not, they were elite players.

People need to realize that there were thousands of minor league/major league players on roids who were as good as them. But only those guys get plagued as being the baseball disease of that time because they were the face of baseball. Im not saying its okay that they were on roids, but i personally think they should be in the hall of fame without a doubt. But thats just me...

From personal experience, Andro worked. Crazy you could buy that stuff at your local GNC back in 1998.

Griffey Jr gets overlooked in his time imo because everyone jumps to steroid era and users like bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Clemens, etc.

Whether or not you care about steroids bc you think pitchers were on them too, Griffey Jrs accomplishments should carry some more wait given that he was never connected in the slightest to using. GOAT

OT: Prominentwon

I saw an old post about a vector version of the mohawk baseball from Major League. Do you still have that file by any chance?

it was very entertaining and saved baseball because it was dying with fans from the strike years before

As others have said, you think players were clean in the 60s and 70s? you know how many players have come out and said they were doing uppers, coke, etc before and during games to get a high.

come on now

Hell, Brady Anderson and Luis Gonzales were hitting 50+ bombs

Yes. And we knew he had andro in his locker at the time. No one cared. I still don't. It was awesome.

Mcgwire was already big even in college and would of been a great slugger if he was healthy.

No he was not...

He was same size as Clark and McGuire (who was a backup catcher)

He was the tallest man on the 84 Olympic team but not the "biggest"

He was on Andro and took heat for it. But ppl overlook that it was legal. McGwire was a huge man and was always big but he never really looked puffy. He always had rediculous power the sign for me was how after years of injuries and back problems he was suddenly able to stay healthy for a long period of time. Which is what really is helped with steroids. It helps you heal faster and train faster. Sosa was never a power hitter until he blew up physically so it was obvious with him.

There are several comments bout roids being awesome. There was an article in S.Illustrated a few yrs back, covering 4 players, on & in the Cards' system as I recall. Two of the players stayed clean the whole time, suffered injuries that kept them from ever having long careers.. The other two cheated their asses off & had lengthy careers. The 2 clean players were upset, to say the least, that they had done it the right way & had short careers, while the 2 cheaters cheated & lasted past 10 yrs. Point being, there were those few who benefited by cheating but how many other players did it right & paid the price in comparison?

In the early 90's McGwire, Canseco, Reuben Sierra, Ricky Henderson and Reggie Jackson all worked out at the World's Gym in Scottsdale during Spring Training. McGwire, Canseco and Jackson were all relatively open and candid among me and my friends about their steroid use and I could have even told you what they were taking. Worst-kept secret ever. Not sure about the other two but McGwire was acquiring his drugs through his brother, who was a big steroid dealer in Orange County, CA.

He purposely got seen with the andro, since it was legal, to quiet talk about the actual needles of much more powerful roids he was sticking himself with since Oakland.

My understanding of Andro at the time was that it was pretty much steroids, but it was new and wasn't made illegal yet. I put McGwire in the "uses steroids camp" but was in denial about Sosa.

It was a legit small minority that thought he was on actual roids at the time....
