The OT & FB commentators have made that dude locally famous. Doucet should send him an invite to red, rock and blue.

I love sports, but I didn't know ESPN was going to this SC6 model until it was discussed here. The reason I didn't know is because I haven't watched SportsCenter @ 6 in nearly a decade.
I've grown up and my responsibilities have changed. I can also get more highlights online than I could ever need. I left ESPN's traditional programming a long time ago, so to act like I'm offended by SC6 is ridiculous. The SportsCenter numbers since 2009 suggest there are many others who are just like me. The faux outrage on this board is comical though.

Just give me the meat and potatoes of sports. Highlights and interviews.
As many have mentioned in other threads, the highlight shows of old are never coming back. They have been rendered useless by the internet and social media, and all the ways to consume highlights, interviews and new stories as they happen.
Obviously all the outlandish hot take shows and racebaiting is a major turn off to much of their viewers, and that needs to change.
I really think there can be a happy medium, and we've seen it before in.... the best damn sports show. I think that was the perfect format. Casual sports talk without the politics and agendas. I wish they would bring that, or something similar, back.

Yeah for now. I don't think she's long for that particular job. I think the general idea of the show can work, it's just that they have the wrong cast in place.
If they could just take the idea of the Max and Marcellus radio show and somehow convert that to TV, that would be an excellent TV show. They talked sports mostly (obviously) but they discussed music, pop culture, social issues w/o directly talking about politics and it wasn't forced, it just came naturally.
Thing is you can't just put two people together, even if they have rapport that can talk about these things. You need someone articulate and knowledgeable.
I know I keep mentioning Max Kellerman, but he'd be perfect for that type of show because I've heard him execute it. You may like the guy or hate him, but it's not going to be because he's ignorant, it'll be because he articulates his position intelligently in a way that makes it difficult to immediately refute if you fundamentally disagree with him. And if it turns out he's wrong, he admits it.

I only watch ESPN when LSU is playing and Rugby on ESPN3.

Full disclosure, I don't watch First Take lol. But I know the show is dominated by Stephen A Smith, and I'm sure Max could be better used elsewhere.

He just took the money, which obviously was a big raise for him. Can't blame him. But he's far more talented than he's allowed to express on FT.

Hill is pretty much correct. Everyone in these threads says "I haven't watched ESPN in months" or " I only watch games." As long as you have cable you are paying for ESPN weather you watch it or not. There are people not watching because of politicis but they aren't cutting their entire cable service because of it.

yes but I'm sure ESPN would love to show advertisers ratings that are worth a frick. She really just needs to shut up at this point.

I am not saying the politics arent part of the problem, they are. There are just much much larger problems. Ads during live events are where all the advertising dollars are made, other programming is just filler except for pre-game shows. When they show the ratings even the best non-sporting event show doesnt do great.

agree completely, kellerman is probably the single best talent on ESPN's roster.
regarding Jemele, she is beyond awful. At least with someone like Stephen A., you get someone that can articulate a thought (although you might not like what he says, or the volume and tone in which he says it), and can be entertaining. Jemele, in addition to being a racist, isn't well spoken or entertaining. She is trash all around.

oh I'm not one that believes this is a reckoning for politics, this train has been headed off the tracks for a few years now due to their shopping spree on tv rights.
as I said earlier, that show's biggest problem is that it has two hosts that can only discuss 2 sports semi decently. That and they're pretty unlikable people.

how butthurt do you get when people talk shite about ole jemele?

The fact that they came up with a bullshite name like 'The 6' and put two phony personalities on the tube killed it for me...before it started.
You are what your reputation is. I don't care what Jamele Hill thinks she is, or pretends to be...she is still phony with silly agendas that don't involve simple sports highlights. Smith is just a puppet.
I agree ESPN needs a new approach on those types of shows, but this just isn't it. They're catering to a minority of their audience instead of trying to grab a new audience.
