If you're going to let them play 75% of the season and still count it as a "redshirt" season, then just get rid of the damn redshirt rule all together and let them play all 5 years of their eligibility clock.

Feels like we're on the cusp of eligibility limits getting obliterated

Being able to play in 9 games, kind of defeats the whole purpose of a redshirt.
Essentially this gives every player 5 years of eligibility instead of 4.
CFB rules have changed so drastically in 5 years.
I’d be okay with all of the rule changes, if they could just implement the transfer sit out rule. Also with giving guys 5 years of eligibility through this ruling you’d think it would be easier to implement the transfer sit out rule.

That is what they are doing without calling it that.

No way that gets approved by the NCAA. Makes no sense to let a player play 75% of a season and not have it count against his eligibility.

CFB, where dreams become careers!

College football is a clown show right now

Yeah…this is dumb. Just say you now have five years to play as much as you can.

Let players play their 9 conference games then sit out against the cupcake non conference games lol

Imagine being a scholarship worthy HS senior and not getting any offers because a few thousand 25-30 year olds that aren't good enough to go pro refuse to stop playing CFB
That's where we're headed

Correct.
I also think you should put in a rule to incentivize staying at a school.
For instance you can get a 6th year if every single one is at the same school

This.
But, you already know what the response would be:
“But coaches can leave whenever they want it’s unfair blah blah blah”
Because allowing athletes to play musical chairs whenever they feel like it has been fantastic for the sport itself.
And what people on that side of the argument don’t/can’t see is that when they make that argument, the discussion is over because we’re no longer talking about the same thing. You can’t have an amateur sport where amateur athletes are treated the same as professional coaches.
Of course, this is all moot because CFB has clearly chosen to be a pro sport in every way except name. Which is what makes this deliberation over redshirting rules kind of ridiculous. Just comes off as a goofy charade.

What is happening is talent is moving up to where it belongs… imagine signing for Nicholls years ago and becoming a stud… you’d be stuck on a shitty team in a shitty conference while someone else signs at LSU and rides the bench for 4 years
Now the best talent gets to play on the biggest stages and that’s the best thing for CFB

Instead of fixing what needs to be fixed, they make things worse

With all the bitching and moaning about college football in this thread youd think we were getting another ohio state - notre dame or ohio state - bama championship.
We have Indiana and Miami playing for a title. We are finally making progress towards parity

And that’s how college football ends. The probably national champion began the year with more 23 and 24 year olds on their roster than 18 and 19 year olds and many of them started their college career before 2021. It’s absurd.
