2. Not even close.

This, but more for the #1 than #2.

Getting tired of these "for those old enough to remember" statements.

What Snyder did at Kansas State is unbelievable. We tend to judge coaches by national titles, but I would argue what he did in Manhattan in the 1990's is the greatest decade of coaching in college football history. They were 0-26-1 in the 27 games prior to him taking over and had only won 137 games in the previous 53 years of football.

Big margins over unranked teams, avg margin of about 5 over the 3 ranked teams you played, and lost to TAMU in the title game. And lost to Purdue in the bowl game (unranked; obviously, not being in a BCS bowl was disappointing, but you had your entire team). You had 6 players drafted off that team, with the kicker being the first one taken in the 3rd round; everyone else was 6th or 7th. Winning 3 or 4 games against FSU/OSU/Tenn/TAMU and the like is not guaranteed, in the least bit.

I remember K-State being badass on NCAA football. Bishop, and I think they had a really fast WR and RB. I feel like somebody had 98 speed.

Snyder’s turn around there was using lots of JUCO guys, which produced quicker results. He had a lot of haters for using so many JUCO.

Yeah, some people almost put asterisks next to his wins because of all the JUCO guys who either couldn't qualify or didn't want to sit out a year transferring. Bishop was a well known HS recruit, at least in the Houston area, but a lot of teams deemed him undersized and wanted him to convert to DB. Snyder got credit for taking him at QB after he played at Blinn.

Florida State was #4 in the BCS, needed #2 UCLA and #3 Kansas State to lose that day.

And the transitive property Gods were on their side, Texas A&M (who they beat) knocked off K State and Miami (who they beat) knocked off the Bruins.

That was my team in that game and I'd run the speed option all day long, it was unstoppable

They had a reputation for running up the score instead of taking their foot off the gas in games that were over. Snyder also recruited a lot of JUCO guys and HS kids that were grade or character risks. I get it they had to do some of that stuff to make the leap they did but it put a damper on a lot of the praise they otherwise would have received.

Also, IIRC, during the same time when Snyder turned Kansas St into a high ranked team, Gary Barnett won back to back Big 10 titles at Northwestern. Northwestern was every bit as hapless as Kansas St, probably even worse by recent standards. So Northwestern stole some of their thunder because everybody was talking about the nerds going to the Rose Bowl instead of Snyder's all-JUCO team.

What Bill Snyder did was / is legendary. KSU was known as futile U, that guy can not get enough credit. To do what he did in that time period, I give him much more credit.

The Big 8 expanding into the Big 12 cost Nebraska (1996) and KSU (1998) shots at the national championship. Didn’t have to worry about a conference championship in the shitty Big 8. You could also add 1999 Nebraska and their register season loss to Texas.

The Big 8 was a joke.

No, Tennessee was followed by ucla. Ohio State was probably the best roster that year.

Ohio State won the Sugar Bowl that year, their defense was led by Antoine Winfield. His son just finished his 6th year in the NFL.

Same here. Whenever I see or hear about K state, Im immediately reminded of those days. I got really good running the option with them. Drove my friends crazy. I think they had another fast RB too, maybe WR. Was that NCAA 2003?
