You’re going to need to provide some data to support that claim.

even Tomlin was allowed to resign instead of being Fired.

1) The Steelers as an organization pride themselves on coach continuity.

2) Name a white coach with an equal resume to Tomlin’s that was fired. Closest I think you could get would be Mike McCarthy.

Let's introduce the "Kupp Rule". Only 13% of WRs in the league can be black. Or the "Alstott Rule" regarding RBs. Or...

Holy Strawman argument. The Rooney Rule simply requires a minority be interviewed for a vacant head coaching position. It doesn't mandate that a minority be hired, or that a percentage of all coaches in the league or an organization be minorities.

But the consternation by white men over a minority just being interviewed . . . sheesh.

Right, so why does Goodell think there's more "work" to do and why does the media cry about the percentage of minority coaches every year?

You're bringing a lot to the conversation.

The Rooney Rule is a virtue signaling band-aid at best and it's impact on getting minorities hired in the NFL is certainly debatable.

But the owners are the ones who implemented it and are required to adhere to it. They can interview as many candidates as they want so you'd have a hard time arguing that it's negatively impacting on "deserving" candidates.

I would disagree with the rule if it mandated hires, but ultimately the NFL owners are free to put whatever restrictions on themselves that they wish. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it one way or the other.

I think they would excel in a coaching/analytics role.

Goodwill will make it where owners must hire black coaches before long. It’s coming. fig has ruined the NFL.

And there is not a single trans coach in the NFL, head or assistant. The injustice needs to stop.

I do wonder why the league is 70% black but only has 3 coaches...doesn't make sense. They know the team culture and playbook...should be more

I’ve always assumed a high number of successful coaches were guys who knew pretty early they couldn’t cut it as a player in major cfb/nfl or had the mind for the game but nowhere near the physical attributes and hit their ceiling early.

If you're a black coach with an interview in the NFL, do you think to yourself, "is this a Rooney Rule deal or are they actually interested?" every time you get a call?

I may have the coaches involved wrong, but I believe it was Dennis Green at time Cowbiys were hiring Bill Parcells who straight up turned down the interview.

The whole planet knew they were gonna hire Parcells.

Green said something to the effect of "I know they hiring Bill, I'd hire Bill too. Why the hell waste my time with the interview?"

It does when you consider playing and coaching require 2 different skill sets. Players are primarily evaluated on athleticism and physical attributes. Belichick preferred corners to be at least 6’ and 180 lbs and run at least a 4.5 40. None of those attributes make you a good coach.
