A fastball, without a fastball the other pitches are easy.

Well I guess a really good knuckleball

I'll take the question to mean the pitcher tells you what he is going to throw and then which pitch would be the hardest to hit despite knowing it's coming. Personally, I struggled with a slider from a lefty(bat left). Could adjust to the other pitches but for whatever reason, that pitch gave me fits.

As someone said, it varies, but I would think any hard stuff just above or below the hands would be awfully tough to get around on.

Get bmac in here and I will bet he says a changeup or a really good splitfinger.

dead on.

Splitfingers are change up but with fastball arm speed and way more depth.

The other answer is a really good sinking fastball.

It all depends on the quality of the pitch and who's throwing what, but there's a reason why the fastball is No. 1 when catchers flash signs, and there's a reason why most pitchers throw at least 60-70% fastballs in a game, if not more.

Breaking balls and changeups are tough to hit because of a pitcher's ability to pitch off of his fastball. If a decent hitter knows a slider is coming, it's pretty easy to barrel up, even if it's a nasty one. Conversely, a well-placed, above average fastball, with life, is still a tough pitch to hit, even if a hitter knows it's coming.

I took it the same way. And there's a reason a lefty reliever can come in, throw 3 straight sliders, and head to the shower. A good slider is game over. Everyone in the park could know it's coming at it doesn't matter.

Changeups are fastball arm speed with a different grip. Thats what makes it the best pitch in baseball.

thanks for the heads up.

And no, a well thrown split, is even better. Same thing as a change up but with more movement which increases the difficulty.

Depends on the level of ball. From LL to HS it's the outside fastball bc everybody wants to pull everything. In college and up its the fricking change up.

12-6 curve

This is the correct answer, followed closely by a good slider

That might be one of the best exchanges in MSB history.

I was a switch hitter so a curve or slider was never away. I could never hit a slider down and in. It looks like a FB, you swing and it breaks toward your shin and you swing over it.

Best pitch is only as good as your 1st pitch.

In other words, you have to have a good fastball to set up the slider or change up. What makes those pitches hard to hit is a good fastball. I'll take a guy with a good fastball and hard slider any day of the week. You throw in an average change up and you got a pitcher. I've always considered a change up a third pitch.

Not necessarily. Some pitchers pitch backwards.

Change-ups are the best off-speed pitch if the pitcher has a nasty one.

It's certainly not 3rd fiddle.
