Cleveland is named after a color

Their logo is a football helmet, that's a different color.

I got more interested in the Texans when they hired Demeco Ryans - he’s enthusiastic, genuine, and it seems like the players love him. Plus they have Stingley, Danielle Hunter, and a fantastic D. I’m on board.

Other than maybe the Cardinals they've been by far the most forgettable franchise in the league since they formed in 2002 (and the Cardinals at least had that improbable Super Bowl run in '08 and made it to the Conference championship game in '15). Teams like the Raiders, Browns and Jets have been generally worse year over year, but at least they've been memorably bad. The Texans are always just sort of "there." They've never really been bad enough to stand out, but also have never been good enough to make you think they've had any real chance to actually win a Super Bowl (they've never been a 1 or 2 seed and have never made it past the divisional round). Other than those years with healthy JJ Watt they've never had any truly special players. Outside of the Watson years their QB play has usually been subpar (and I don't think anyone looks back on those years fondly with the way it all turned out). Most of their playoff games, whether they've won or lost, have been forgettable (2019 was an exception when they came from behind to beat the Bills in overtime, then blew a 21-0 lead to the Chiefs the next week). I'm not bagging on them or their fans or anything. I have no ill will towards them and I certainly hope they beat the Patriots next week. But outside of their fanbase they've just never inspired much thought for anyone (positive or negative) one way or the other.

I met Earl Campbell when I was in middle school. Wore his jersey, had an Oilers letterman jacket and toboggan that I wore until I outgrew them. When they left Houston, it felt like a part of me died. I live in Tennessee and never liked the Titans. I try to cheer for the Texans but it’s not the same.

There was no way in hell Bud Adams was ever going to let Houston keep the Oilers name. That man hated Houston for not giving him a new stadium even though he stayed here and ran his empire while his football team moved to Nashville.

Honestly, I think one of the main reasons that the Texans haven't really established themselves as the brand that lets say the Astros and Rockets are to H-town outside of the history that left with the Oilers is that Houston is kinda a transient town. Saints fans here are more passionate about the Saints than Texans fans are just because there are so many people from Louisiana that are here. It is culture to them. With that said, the influx of new people to H-town for work that have had kids that have grown up here in Houston honestly don't know shite about the Oilers but have embraced the Texans. My son who is 28 played his first pee wee tackle football season on the Kingwood Football League Texans. He is a Texans fan because he never knew the Oilers.

If the Texans can have more sustained success it will only increase with time. They are still incredibly popular despite the generic branding and newness just because football is so incredibly popular here. I think the Oilers leaving clinched Houston always being a college football first city though, and the run the Stros were on has embedded them with a few generations of people

This is one of those things that you just need to let go and get over at some point. The Texans have been around since 04. The Oilers have not existed since 96. They arent coming back.

There are grown adults with multiple kids who wasn't even alive the last time the Oilers played football in Houston. It's time to move on.

I, for one continue to enjoy my memories of the Oilers.

The Titans failed to be interesting and misused Mike Munchak and Vrabel. . and the Texans chose a default name.

The oilers left right as the first real generation of people that grew up in Houston were getting old enough to become sports fans.

I know there are plenty of old time Houston people but the real growth happened in the 70/80s transplants, ie my parents.

Real bag fumbling by the admas family forcing themselves to restart in a different transplant city.
