I agree.

I wonder if this was affected by the addition of the New Orleans Bowl. Speaking of state assistance.

The Einstein Indy Bowl and Advocare committee members thought that the ACC and Mountain West match up would be more appealing than the SEC and Big XII.

I go to 2-3 LSU home games a year. I have attended the I-Bowl for several years. The Big 12-SEC match-up was worth attending, even though it involved low-seeded teams.
Last year, I attended the Air Force-GA Tech I-Bowl (a friend gave me two tickets) and it looked like the teams were playing in slow motion compared to SEC teams.
I will not go this year even if someone offers me free tickets. Wyoming-WF is not worth my time. I can't imagine anyone going to see that crap.

Saints-Falcons is on the same day too (a few hours later). They may get 15,000 max at the I-Bowl.

Wyoming
Wyoming is like a mini-WVU. Small in numbers but their core is really into it. They will bring a good group. It's few and far between bowl games.

The bowl has turned into an embarassment. Now it's just like any of the other nothing bowls.
Her name is Missy Setters. Did y'all know that her husband, Ross Setters played for LSU in the early 90s? Not that it matters, the bowl teams selections are still sad.

Heck, I remember after the Curley years being damn happy just to be at the Indy Bowl. Beating ND was gravy.
Truly stupid move to drop the SEC but it is also possible the SEC wanted more money than the Indy bowl could pay.

Even Bob Stoops (of all people) will tell you it was one of the best bowl experiences hes ever had.
Speaking from overall experience (city, game, bowl activities, etc.) my experience in college:
1.)BCSNCG (Pasadena)
2.)Sugar Bowl/Capital One Bowl
4.)Independence Bowl.
There are much better cities for SEC bowl games.I would be in favor of the SEC dropping the Birmingham bowl as well.

When did you come to Shreveport? It's completely different now than even 5-6 years ago.
Posted on 11/29/11 at 3:03 am to JJ27
2006 and 2007. I don't know what could have changed since then to make it a more appealing city than New Orleans, Orlando, Dallas, Tampa, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Memphis, and Memphis for an SEC bowl game.
To explain my disdain....I was in the Million Dollar Band. When we travel to away games we usually stay in "average to above average" hotels (Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, etc.) Bowl games put you in a sponsor hotel, so the band has no say in where they stay.
SEC Championship game? Waverly Renaissance Hotel
Sugar Bowl? Hilton Riverside
BCSNCG? Sheraton Universal
Capital One Bowl? Rosen Center Hotel
Shreveport? Days Inn. Okay fine. In the two years I went there I had *zero* hot showers because we "overwhelmed their hot water heater." I get it, there are 400 of us....but I stayed in 13 different hotels on full band trips and that was a problem in exactly *ONE* hotel. We asked members of Okie State and Colorado's bands about their hotel (the one that was formerly Shoney's Inn) and they had the same problem. Plus the only things around that hotel was a Waffle House, a gas station, and a Wendy's that went drive thru only at 10. Boring. Orlando has several things in walking distance plus there are so many attractions you can get to with public transportation. Hollywood was next to City Walk and a subway station that could take you to many LA attractions, and New Orleans....well it's New Orleans!
Then there's the "planned activity" for the bowl. Granted, the Sugar Bowl doesn't have one for the bands, but you are staying in downtown New Orleans. You don't need anything else. Orlando we got to go to Universal Studios. Same thing with Pasadena. Shreveport you get a karaoke party with the other band. I will say the people that put on that party were very welcoming. The Shreveport Fire Dept on the other hand..... If I was the mayor I would be embarrassed if my fire department went and taunted visitors for a major event in my city. Then to go and BRAG about it on this very message board....really? Sure it is a minor thing, but it left a black mark in the minds of all of us. Throw in the fact that, sorry to say, LSU seems to have more obnoxious fans than any other fans base I have dealt with and the game is in LSU country and they were in BCS Bowl games each of the two years ALabama was in Shreveport, one with the head coach that "left them for the enemy" and it was miserable dealing with all those fans.
Shreveport is not a terrible city per say (hell, I'm from Birmingham and it reminded me a lot of that), but it is not a destination city like the other SEC bowl cities (again, I don't think Birmingham should have an SEC bowl either). Now that we have Texas A&M and Missouri, I would LOVE for the SEC to try and get a tie in with the Alamo Bowl. San Antonio is such a unique city. But that's a topic for another thread.

I don't think it was the Indy Bowl's choice to lose the SEC-Big12 tie in. The SEC picked up the Gator Bowl after several years of absence. I'm willing that had more to do with it than anything else.

hell .. i remember a time when mcneese state played in the indy bowl .. it has seen worse times than this ..

I think the I-bowl got hosed a bit by the sec & big 12. Their payout was/is actually pretty high compared to the other lower tier bowls. I believe the liberty bowl going after the sec caused them to lose their spot. Not sure about big 12

Best one was in 1978...not so much for the game for for this guy being in town to receive the General Omar Bradley Award.

absolutely. year in and year out you were pretty much guaranteed to have a solid program or two, who were in down years, come to Shreveport to play. LSU, Alabama, Oregon, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Georgia, etc. I've been to a lot of I-bowls and always had fun. Now it's a fricking joke.

None of the Wake fans I know are making the trip if that ends up being the game. Nobody wants to drive (or fly) to Shreveport to watch a game against Wyoming. I was hoping for a trip to Charlotte or Nashville, but NC State's push at the end pretty much fricked us there.
So yeah, the Wake fans there will be parents. It'll be like a bad high school crowd.

What about when Dinarndo took Saban to the woodshed?
That's when Saban realized how much he could do with better athletes and told his agent to contact LSU about the job opening.
The next year I went on the Cedars, a Mich State message board and asked what they thought about Saban. They said "He will leave you after he wins an NC."
I said "I'll take that deal."
I was then banned from the board.

The game is the day after Christmas. Only die hard fans of teams will travel on Christmas for a shitty bowl. And the teams they will probably get have very few die hard fans.
With the date they are stuck with, they need something that will attract some local fans. The teams they will probably get don't do that, either.
Thus, they are screwed.
