He was a household name on par with Jordan at one point in the 90's
Was he as good as his 'brand' says he was?

That's some revisionist history. He was extremely popular, but well shy of on par with Jordan.

The sweetest swing in all of baseball and the backwards ballcap was emulated everywhere but not on the same level as Jordan.

On a scale of prety good to really good he would fall on the really good spectrum not the goat but definitly one of the really good ones of his time I do believe his “brand” helped him out and got him a few more commercials and all star games and what not but he was still really good in his own right having a daddy that also played mlb ball and shared a name with him gave him a bit of nepotism boost early on for sure but he worked hard and took off in his own right!

The guy had his own video game. He was good and the baseball brand for a few years.

I need you to put some more respect on Jr’s name

Ken Griffey was a God. That was peak baseball.

At one point he and Bonds were neck and neck for the games best player. Injuries took control of Griffeys career and Bonds ascended to heights the game has never seen. Griffey was the face of baseball in his era. Thats as close to Jordan as he ever got. There has never been a par for Jordan. Tiger Woods is the only thing anywhere close. Ali before him.

All of MLB did.
Pitchers.
Hitters.
Bat boys probably.
Bonds was a HOF level player before he got on gear like everyone else.
They should just discount the numbers from a record book standpoint and stop acting like an entire era of baseball that they encouraged for ratings never occurred.

I was a kid during this era, but I wouldn’t say he was well shy of Jordan.
Everyone my age started showing up to baseball practice in a backwards hat and wanted the Griffey Jr. cleats.
Obviously wasn’t as sustained as Jordan’s popularity but at his peak I remember it being really close.

He had as much natural ability as anyone in that era and if he stayed healthy would be considered as a Top 5 player of all time. He was legitimately amazing when healthy.

Still hit over 600 career homers even though he lost a couple of years due to his wrist injury... Sweetest swing in baseball.
He was the man
He was the man

If he could have stayed healthy he was easily top 10 if not top to ever do it.

well he is a top 15-20 player of all time and if he stayed even close to healthy is top 5 for sure. In the 90s him and bonds were the most consistent and he was an amazing CF. what hurt junior was being in the Pac NW. if he was with Chicago or one of the NE teams he would be remembered even better.
but Junior in the 90s......dude was on pace to be top 5 all time. So yea he was that good.
