Wow. That’s bullshite. Why even have rules? I have no dog in the hunt at all, but seriously...WHY. HAVE. RULES???

The LHSAA official at the game screwed up the pitch count.

Unless Notre Dame asked the official pitch counter for his count, which was wrong so they’re absolved, it shouldn’t matter.

That is how all games were handled in Sulphur. The LHSAA was keeping pitch counts and obviously screwed it up.

If it was ND's mistake, they would be forfeiting the game, but since it was their fault, NBD.

If ND asked, and the LHSAA said they’re good, then it’s not their fault.

I was at the game (my nephew starts for ND) and was following the pitch count on Game Changer. After the 2nd out in the bottom of the 9th, it showed him at 127 pitches, and I walked down the stairs to above the dugout and hollered at the coach about the pitch count. He didn't hear me and walked into the dugout and the pitcher threw a pitch to the batter. Oh well, he probably would have told me to frick off anyway.

It was not counting foul balls w 2 strikes like I suggested earlier in thread.
LHSAA can't help themselves.
Pay somebody to count pitches, and they don't realize foul balls w 2 strikes count. I guess it was their first time doing this, and it just so happened to be a CHAMPIONSHIP game.

Is there going to be new pitch counts rules next year?

I like this better than forcing a team to forfeit the championship game due to an error that wasn't their own.

I’m pro PIO, but I do wonder if they had their own pitch count going and knew they were over.

This....I'm from Crowley and highly involved in the Catholic school system there. BUT...I've heard a lot of people in the stands knew that the kid was basically over when he went out for the last inning. If the fans knew how could the coach not know?....AND if this thing is supposed to be about player safety how in the world do you not take him out even in the LHSAA has it wrong?
That's what concerns me. All the rulemakers and coaches say this is about player safety yet when it becomes convenient we absolutely find a way to circumvent the safety related rule.

I don’t really care either way, but it would have been a nice story to read if ND had pulled him anyway despite LHSAA having the count wrong.
You know, doing the right thing and all.
Is winning the most important thing in high school sports? At ND?
Again, I don’t really care and am glad they won, and tbh it’s kind of pussified to get worked up over it. I’m just saying it would have served as a good example if they had voluntarily abided by the rules.

I'm not worked up.
Safety of the player either matters or it doesn't...pretty cut and dry. If it doesn't matter don't insult my intelligence by parading this "rule" around (LHSAA and coaches) in the name of player safety.
If the coach and the kid's parent don't care enough to pull him before he has to have TJ surgery at 16/17 then who am I to care.

Same.

No I was talking about myself. It’s not fun to be that guy.
I wasn’t implying anything about your response.

Agreed
It’s amusing to me to think that ND would prioritize winning over player safety (though I would bet no one involved thought they were jeapordizing his safety). Maybe that’s because I deal with the Crowley rec department where somehow we end up with an obviously stacked team in the 7-8 year old baseball league. Just win, baby!
Must be something in the water at the Bayou Bend pool.

My 5 year old little girl plays in the Shetland league.

I've heard about these politics....I'd hate to be a coach at that age group....I've noticed some of the games/practices and it seems intense.

Sorry I got it mixed up....it was his last batter when he was that close.
My bad...admitted bad info from me.
ETA: I stand by the fact that people in the stands knew he was close throughout the 9th....and probably had a more accurate count than even the LHSAA.
BUT like uway and I have discussed it really doesn't freaking matter
