You really wanted to play in a 10 team district where district play started week 1?

Central Lafourche
South Lafourche
Thibodaux
Ellender
Terrebonne
South Terrebonne
Hl Bourgeois
Hahnville
Destrehan
East St John

I personally like Hahnville & Destrehan in the district as do most people I know, but if South Terrebonne, Assumption, & Ellender are 5A naturally they're going to bump the river teams from the district because well they're bayou teams. I do not enjoy playing or going to ESJ though. I really wish they'd get sent to a Baton Rouge area district.

I am shocked that nobody bitched about 4 of the 5 number 1 seeds being from NORTH Louisiana.

What does Rummel have to do with this? There seems to be a strong sense of butt hurt in your post. Curtis was granted several opportunities many years ago to join 5A and declined.

As previously mentioned, Curtis has lost to four Catholic league teams already. JT is quickly learning that they can't just line up anymore and run over/out-talent these teams.

No it was an 8 team district, 7 games and 3 non-districts. The way it is now, whoever gets the bye in the later part of the season will have trouble adding a game.

No one should have a week 10 bye in District. Start District a week earlier if need be, but it's almost impossible to fill a week 10 non District game.

Well we're all glad you don't pay any income, property, or sales taxes OR volunteer time and buy fundraiser junk from students to support the public school system in the state. Or maybe you're one that thinks the schools are funded thru the majic liberal money tree!

What about public schools that pass kids that can't read or write just so they can play ball. Private schools don't have that option. Well Redemptrist did but look where they are now. Gone with the Ghetto wind.

What about the private schools that hand out GEDs?

This. Going to Nicholls, I made a great deal of friends from all 3 of the Lafourche public high schools. We always liked to take shots at each other. Hell, my brother is actually a teacher @ CLHS.

The parish is very tight connected from north to south.

I personally have plenty of family that went to Hahnville.. my mother is from that way.

District play would actually start in week 2....but I'm with you. I don't care for districts that large.

I like playing the bayou teams too since I know so many people from those schools....but frick that drive down to SL

I'm not sure even ESJ likes playing at ESJ. That visitor's side is ridiculous.

Destrehan gut stuck with the week 10 bye due to odd number of teams in district. They found one team willing to play them; IMG Academy in Florida. Of course they would have had to travel to South Florida so they decided against that.

I was surprised they didn't get passed by Byrd. Byrd picked up 18 points in week 10 by beating Evangel and Destrehan was idle. I fully expected Destrehan to slip to #4 and for us to see a rematch of the semifinals from last year. This time it would be at WM though. Guess we'll have to wait and see if both make it to the Dome.

Yeah I actually do pay taxes. I will additionally pay for my hypothetical child to go to a private school. What's your point?

Exactly. Starting district a week earlier wouldn't have mattered since the district has an odd number of teams in it. You're ALWAYS going to have 1 team without a district opponent.

I guess maybe some of the early non-district games power points kept Byrd from jumping them. Not sure who Byrd played, just a guess.

Here are the 2 team's schedules:

Byrd's Schedule
W Barbe (6-3-0) o
W Longview TX (8-2-0) +
W Calvary (8-2-0) +
W Captain Shreve* (3-7-0) -
L Parkway (9-1-0)* +
W Haughton (6-4-0)* +
W Southwood (0-10-0)* -
W Green Oaks (4-6-0) +
W Airline* (7-3-0) -
W Evangel* (8-2-0) -

Destrehan's Schedule
W Slidell (2-8-0) -
W Woodlawn (BR) (6-4-0) +
W John Ehret (8-2-0) +
W Hahnville* (7-3-0) +
W Terrebonne* (3-7-0) +
W East St John* (2-8-0) -
W Central Lafourche* (6-4-0) +
W H L Bourgeois* (5-5-0) -
W Thibodaux* (6-4-0) -
OPEN

The +, - or o after each team is indicative of the result that respective team had in week 10.

In reality, there wasn't really anything Byrd could do to overtake Destrehan in the power rankings. The Wildcats' 1.000 winning percentage put them over the top compared with the Jackets' 0.900 winning percentage. That effectively gave Destrehan a full 1 point boost in their power rating (90 points for 9 wins divided by 9 games played = 10 points; 90 points for 9 wins divided by 10 games played = 9 points for Byrd). All of Byrd's non-district opponents that had a week 10 game won...so they got full points from that. Had Barbe played a game and won Byrd would have then been tied at 15.00 power points. Or if any of Byrd's opponents over the season would have had just 1 more win on their books NOT at the expense of another one of Byrd's opponents, then Byrd's power rating would have been 15.07.

Destrehan was fortunate in that 2 of their 3 non-district opponents scored wins in week 10. Had Woodlawn or Ehret lost in week 10, Destrehan's power rating would have dropped to 14.89. Byrd's schedule was tougher when looking at wins/losses of opponents 60/40 for a 0.600 winning percentage while Destrehan's opponents were 45/45 for an even 0.500.
