This is most certainly true and a shared opinion of every respected baseball person that I have discussed it with.
some eyes would pop if LHSAA listed ages in sports programs instead of grade

Does it matter though outside of a senior year? If a kid held back, the only year it makes a difference is his senior year.

Anyone looking at the weather for this weekend? I'm looking to go and have a hotel room booked. But I'm not gonna pay for a room to stand out in the rain all day Saturday.

I didn’t hold back and I didn’t hold my kids back. Just didn’t see it as the right path for them.

A large portion is covered. You shouldn’t have to get in the rain other than concession/bathroom breaks.

I mean to watch games in rain delays. I've been to the fields before.

Ahh, well supposedly the fields can take a ton of rain and not miss a beat with the turf/drainage. Lightning would be the only concern.

OC has Gauthier verballed to UNO, I believe.
Pitre is going to Milsaps
There's a couple others that may end up at small schools.

Oh, nice. I was wondering if Gauthier was going to play somewhere, he seemed like their top prospect.
They need to update PBR and Perfect Game.

Also, don't forget the hold back benefit if they go on to play college baseball. You can become draft eligible after soph year if 21 by the draft cutoff date. That's another reason a lot of college prospects are doing that.

I see that the Lutcher head baseball job has opened up. Anyone know what happened there?

Mother Nature may cause some delays in Sulphur.

Looks like I’ll be covering Opelousas Catholic Wednesday morning.
What’s your opinion on the semi?

Ascension Catholic is the defending State Champ in Division IV and has won 57 games over the past two years. Most of their starters played in the past two Football State Championships along with the Baseball Championship last year. No disrespect to OCS but I wouldn't bet a nickle against AC in this one.

OC has a history of losing in the semis. Some tough losses usually where they struggle scoring in a competitive game until a back breaking error.
Their bats seem to be peaking at the right time this time around. They have unusual depth for such a small class school. In years past they really beat themselves up over the course of the season playing perennial 4 and 5A powers.
Still played some tough competition, but I was glad to see some of the early big tourneys took it a bit easier on them. It's amazing they haven't won a state title over the last 5-6 years, but it seems they continue to end up in the more competitive class when their talent lines up. They've been A, AA, back to A, etc.
IDK anything about AC's team. I know every kid on OC from playing with them throughout the years in travel and Legion.

Just for clarification for everyone that may not be familiar with one or either of the schools:
OC = Opelousas Catholic
OCS = Ouachita Christian
Maybe the teams can meet in the finals and OC can avenge the 2000 1st round asswhipping from OCS in football. 31-0 IIRC at the hands of Rudy Niswanger and Brandon Hurley. The bus ride from Opelousas to Monroe was MISERABLE.
