From what I remember the NBA ratings were terrible even when not up against the NFL while golf ratings were pretty strong in the summer before football started. I could be wrong.

It was a boring final round to be completely honest. DJ ran away with it and his biggest competition was two guys no one heard of.

April will be a much different course and hopefully provide a lot more drama.

Interesting.

All kind of excuses and rationalizing up in here.

But when the Black People Leagues drop in the ratings......

Not sure about the NBA, but golf ratings have been exceptionally good almost all year until they go up against NFL Sundays.

this is accurate

ESPN, which is taking its whack at the TV golf piñata with this week’s PGA Championship, reported that ratings from the first day of the tournament were the best in five years.

According to a release from the company, Thursday’s opening round averaged 1.246 million viewers, the best since 2015 and the second-best opening round in the last 10 years. Friday’s round did even better, jumping 43 percent higher to average 1.763 million.

CBS, which will have two prime-time weekend slots for the championship this weekend, has already seen big spikes in viewership.

The numbers have been up across the board for CBS, including an 11 percent spike over last year’s rating at the 3M Open in Minneapolis, which didn’t boast a big-name field.

The final round of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis saw an even bigger jump, with viewership up almost 40 percent from last year. The only Tour event with a bigger audience thus far was for the Jack Nicklaus-hosted Memorial.

Boring, competition from the NFL and I'm not sure the lead up had as much hype as a typical Masters.

I know it seems ridiculous to us, but I have no doubt there are a surprising number of people who would typically make a plan to watch the Masters who didn't know or forgot about the Masters in November.

well, it's true. Golf ratings were actually better this year during COVID than they were for the same events last year. You think people just stopped caring about golf before the biggest tournament of the year or did maybe it being in November right in the middle of NFL games have something to do with it?

What percentage of NBA games were on Sundays between 12 and 3 CT?

The Masters didn't air just on Sunday. It started on Thursday.

Sunday’s final round of the Masters averaged a 3.4 rating and 5.59 million viewers on CBS, marking the lowest rated Sunday at Augusta since 1957

I watched every second of it and found it just as blissful as a Sunday in April.

Not having March Madness to pump people up for it probably also had a small impact.

Who cares, it was awesome.

The final round was on Thursday, Friday and Saturday?

That’s neat

Thursday was down 11% from last year, Friday down 22%, and Saturday down 40%

Another issue the Masters faced was it started at 6 AM (CST) and ended by 5 PM, way earlier than normal. People weren't off work by the time the first two rounds were finishing up, and the TV coverage didn't even start until a lot of big name guys were on the back 9 Saturday. Hell, it didn't even start until after the last group had teed off for that matter.

I'm not sure what this is all supposed to prove? Golf has been one of the few sports that has done well during COVID. They have one poor ratings turn out and now they're just like the NBA? Seems a bit illogical IMO

The Masters has never had to compete with any other sport for viewers. This year, they had to deal with CFB on Saturday and NFL on Sunday. You'll notice the ratings drop was minimal on Thursday and Friday.

I didn’t forget about it, but I forgot it started so early on Sunday.

The leaders were in the course by 9:30 ET. I didn’t turn on my TV until nearly noon central time. Thankfully, I was recording it so I was able to rewind, but eventually gave up on it when DJ was running away with it.

A whole lot of people streamed it on their website or app. I Is that in this?

Also - April will be back to high ratings I'd assume.

Of course it will be. It may not draw record numbers, but it will be infinitely better than this past weekend.
