I saw Noah Song was taken, one of the more interesting prospect/draft stories that’s happened recently. He was legit at Navy (like mid-upper 90’s with three pitches) but fell down the draft because he was unable to get an exemption from his service commitment. He’s been fulfilling it the last few years and maybe close to being able to pursue baseball full time now. Probably would have been a fringe first round pick coming out if teams knew he could jump straight into pro ball

There is still no update on his exemption request. It sucks that we had to make him available considering he's on the restricted list. The Phillies are now just going to be able to add him to the military list without him even counting against the 40 man. Song hasn't ptiched since 2019 and has never been above A ball. Seems like DD just wanted to frick with Boston because the opportunity presented itself tbh.

I’m guessing they don’t want teams using the reserve list to try to stash players but this is obviously a unique situation. Doesn’t seem fair to Boston for sure

Ultimately, the Cubs want another Yan Gomes to pair with Yan Gomes. They had the offensive catcher – one of the best in baseball – but they have long been interested in going full-on run-prevention. It’s a philosophical shift years in the making, and the Cubs are betting it will more than offset the loss of the offense.
I'm down, Replace his offense at another position. .256 career hitter with 15-20 homers - we can do that - and improve our defense and help the pitchers reach their best potential.

Heyman at it again.

According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are not pursuing Correa "in part out of concern that a sizable portion of their fan base would not welcome the move." That is due to the fact, as Rosenthal says, that Correa was "the most outspoken member" of the 2017 Houston Astros team that was found guilty of illegally stealing signs. That Astros team, of course, beat the Dodgers in that year's World Series.

BREAKING: Outfielder Masataka Yoshida and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

Masataka Yoshida's deal with the Boston Red Sox will be for five years and more than $85 million, sources tell ESPN. The posting fee for the Orix Buffaloes will be in the $15 million range, bringing the total outlay for Yoshida to around $100 million.

Yoshida, 29, is an on-base machine who led Nippon Professional Baseball in OPS the last two seasons. His bat-to-ball skills are absolutely world-class: just 41 strikeouts in 508 plate appearances, with 80 walks. Only Luis Arraez had a lower strikeout rate in MLB last season.

Masataka Yoshida's deal with the Boston Red Sox is for $90 million. With a posting fee of $15.4 million, the total cost of the five-year deal will be $105.4 million.
