Sounds like he is from that tweet I posted
That’s a great deal for Arenado honestly when you factor in that three year opt out

I just can't see a $30+ M dollar a year deal giving the player an option to leave that doesn't give the team a similar option.
These big long term contracts NEVER work out for the teams and their fans (the people who actually generate their revenue).

Awesome deal. Glad he is taking it.

Super pumped the Rockies have extended Arenado. They could not afford to lose him. They also locked Blackmon last season.
Just wish they couldve kept DJ

Holy Fowler and heyward contracts batman.
Not interested to get into 5 yar deals(harper will opt out at 5 years) with top free agents at age 26, but you give 17mil per for a 1 year wonder???
Mo is an idiot

Apparently three teams have offered Harper over 300 million, which is surprising

Rendon is also probably celebrating today

Lol what the frick. He had a good year but the Cardinals have a seemingly endless supply of mid to back rotation starters. Why in the world would you spend that much on him

they must feel super high on him internally or whatever. still a very weird deal. i wouldnt want to give multiple years to pitchers who are already in their 30s

There is a lot of regression due in the numbers. 279 BABIP, 0.7 HR/9, 9% HR/FB. I would want to see more than one year of it for sure before committing that.

i like that he straight up doesnt walk anyone and he legitimately did limit quality contact. his xwOBA given up was only 282. but a mediocre strikeout and bad whiff rates arent encouraging. its gonna come down to if he can continue to limit quality contact and keep walking people at literally a 3% rate which does not seem very sustainable

I don't like the number either but there's some uncertainty in that rotation.
Wacha who I like but he can't stay healthy
Martinez I think would be a great high-leverage reliever but he's got his issues as well
Wainwright gone after this year
Reyes can't stay healthy
Hudson looked good out of the pen but he's got to figure out the walks. Hopefully that issue was an outlier
Flaherty is obviously a nice piece

I think he’s going to regress to a 2.5-3 win mid rotation type which is fine. The Cards have so many guys who could potentially fill that internally though. I don’t see what the urgency was to lock him up to a deal like this.

Me too. I am bummed they lost DJ.

Thoughts on the latest Kershaw injury? Starting to feel like the beginning of the end for a guy with 11 years of mileage on his arm.

last year was already pretty much the beginning of the end for him. think i said last may that the kershaw that existed for the previous decade was long gone
he just got a very big red flag that something is wrong with his shoulder from literally just playing catch. he didnt even get into a simulated game, just literally playing catch and theres a legit chance he has some structural damage now
hes probably done
