people involved estimate the best-paid stars — Trout, Cole, Verlander, Scherzer, etc — might make about 20-30 percent of their full salary over 82 games plus postseason. So for Cole, for instance, that’d be not 36M but about 9M
Lmfao

And last week the vast majority here were shitting on the players and putting most of the blame at their feet

MLB goal is to start spring training June 10. So the “soft” deadline for a deal has been said to be June 1. But that’s probably soft.

Seen another way: 82-game prorated salaries vs. MLB's proposal

Full Proposal
prorated

$285K $262K
$506K $434K
$1.01M $736K
$2.53M $1.64M
$5.06M $2.95M
$7.59M $4.05M
$10.1M $5.15M
$12.7M $6.05M
$15.2M $6.95M
$17.7M $7.84M

MLB just sees this as an opening offer but also sees it as the ball being in the court of the players union. MLB abandoned their preferred revenue-sharing split. But union sees the cuts, especially for stars, as way too steep. One more thing: fans later would trigger adjustments
quote:

Sources: Under MLB proposal to players, a player making $35 mil in 2020 would make about $7.8 mil. A player making 10 mil would get about 2.9 mil and a player making a mil would make $434k.

Did Red Sox ownership purposely plant coronavirus in the states to win that trade

We can’t rule it out

Jesus, no player in their right mind would take that deal. I'm baffled that MLB would actually propose this shite.

Pay the players a prorated salary. Owners reap the benefits when things are going well. Now they need to take their lumps when things aren't going well.

This is a business for owners, not entertainment

It really is. What's funny is basically what they're trying to do is single out the higher paid guys because there's far less of them comparatively speaking to those medium and lower salary players, and hope that majority bands together to just try to get this over.

Problem is, you're still taking money from those lower salary players, some of which need every bit of that prorated contract they already agreed to back in March

I know it’s all negotiating tactics and that’s only their first offer, but that’s so far away from anything that the players would ever accept that I’m pessimistic we get baseball this year. Especially since time is ticking. They need an agreement real soon so they can have some type spring training and potentially start by July 4. Every day that looks less and less likely.

It's a business that, by their own admission, relies heavily on the fans. So go ahead and piss off/alienate the fans, and let us know how that works for their business. That proposal is a bad look for them. They're running the risk of turning an issue that can be recovered from in a few years to an issue that will take several years to recover from.

If you're not paying your minor leaguers, they should be allowed out of their contracts and be free agents

They need to figure out a way to get back on the field. To go nearly 18 months without your product on the field will be worse for the game than the 94 strike.

Seriously, every time there’s a strike or even every time there’s a player that holds out (Blake Snell, hello) it fricking makes me hate them more and more.

I would give anything to be able to play. I’d play for $10 a game. I’m so fricking sick of these players acting as if they’re paid in fricking peanuts.

If the two parties are still this far apart a week from now, then I’ll start bashing the owners.

This was all expected.

I wish people would quit acting as if the players are the noble citizens here. Both sides are awful.

I’d love to paint it as the owners are a bunch of slime and the players are always in the right. But the players have refused to help improve financial conditions for minor leaguers in all of their labor battles for years. The players look out for themselves as the owners do. Neither side really gives a shite about the fans or their minor-league peers.

So I can never understand why everyone wants to rush to the players’ defense. Rip on the owners — I’m right there with you. But don’t act like the players are a bunch of righteous martyrs. If they ended up getting screwed (and they won’t), it would be karma for the way they’ve let minor leaguers get screwed over the years.

I don’t know what you’re reading. The players are taking the heat from the vast majority of fans.

It’s pretty simple why some people are defending the players though. 20-30% of your salary for 50% of the games is obviously a terrible deal for the players.

Union leadership, many top agents and surely highly-paid star players are upset by MLB proposal (“barely worth a response”), but many lower-paid players may have different reax. Know this: 65% of MLB players make $1M or less and off prorated pay they still get at most a 15% cut.
quote:

There are no bargaining sessions with MLB and the union today as players and agents instead talk about MLB's economic proposal and next steps. There is no hard deadline, but if the two sides reach an agreement by about June 6, their season could still start by July 4th weekend.

dont see why the players are getting so mad, why should they get 100% pay for 50% work. Prorating the pay for half the games make sense. If they dont want to pay for then dont play and dont get paid.

Holy shite, have you read anything about this at all?
The players want the prorated pay. The owners won’t give it to them.
