The NFL has to send a “points of emphasis” to the refs that it is becoming obvious to fans that Burrow is not being protected by refs ignoring obvious face masks, late hits and blows to the head on Burrow.

My comment has nothing to do with what happened tonight. Obviously that dude fricked up. It just seems like if you block a punt nobody has any idea where it’s going and the likelihood it bounces off someone inadvertently is high

Well generally when one is blocked the return team and sideline starts yelling "PETER" or "OSKIE" as an alert for everyone to find the ball and get the frick away from it
It's not perfect and to be honest while what you say makes sense I can't honestly say I've seen it happen very much at all off a block
