I know one of the school's top boosters wants to first go after Deggs. I think it's the obvious choice.

I'm not sure if he will want the job though. I feel like he is similar to Tony in that he is a loyal guy who may not be trying to climb the baseball latter and instead build something special at one school. And maybe he thinks he has that at Sam Houston. He is a Texas guy afterall. I haven't heard reports or anything about this. It's just pure speculation as to why he may not take it.

Even Robe made the jump from McNeese over to USL early in his career. I have no idea what Deggs is thinking but for Deggs it'd be an opportunity to take over a pretty consistent winning programs over the last decade+. And I dont know what UL means to him but Coach Robe and the university gave him a chance when he was out of baseball.

Certainly not implying he owes UL a debt of gratitude but it might be a special place for him.

Someone who probably will have you ALL scratching your head, but would be a great choice is.....

Rocke Musgraves (former LSUS coach).

Yep all valid points. It just all depends how willing he is to move on from there. I'm just saying there's a potential he has no interest in moving on from SHSU.

People who constantly name Andy Cannizarro for every baseball opening probably are doing it because he's one of the only few names they know.

Canni represents everything Robe was not. Seriously doubt anybody from ULL would even consider this.

Personally, I would want Deggs. Another guy who would be good would be Jeff Johnson from Chipola College:

17 years as HC: 866-396-2
3 National Championships
3x NJCAA Coach of the year
13x Conference COY
17 MLB players
4 MLB all stars

Also, I wouldn’t mind looking at Jake Gautreau.

so ULL goes from a coach who is, by all accounts, a genuinely fantastic human being to a degenerate like Canny? Doubtful

Canni has alot in common with Hud. Just saying

On a serious note, Deggs has to be the first choice. He'd be the perfect fit

I would call Matt Riser, I've always thought highly of him. I'm surprised he has stayed at Southeastern this long

Hud was a Farmer hire. Jay already wrote a blog about the difficulty of the job for Maggard in this instance. About how they need to prioritize the culture that's already in place and putting the student before the athlete and all of those things.

I would be absolutely floored if the hire was someone like Cannizaro.

I can barely even do my own lame research because I get bummed out about it every time I think of somebody else being the coach. However, Matt Deggs is the most obvious choice and he's the one person that 100% of Ragin' Cajuns fans would love. I don't know if he wants to follow Tony and if he would want to leave what he's building, but if he does -- he's the guy.

This is painful to think about but it must be done. Deggs seems like the obvious choice but he makes more then twice at Sam houston what Robe was making at ULL. Call to duty is one thing but that would be quite the pay cut for him.

It has to be someone familiar with the program and the culture of the program which is second to none in college baseball. This is going to be difficult

They can pay him more than Sam Houston can. Robe was never about money so the university got one hell of a discount for 25 years.

The job is 100% Deggs’ to turn down. There is a list of very good coaches after him, but he is on his own list and is the #1 candidate.

Riser is in the list as well, and I’d be very happy with his as HC as well. But for all intents and purposes if it’s not Deggs the fan base will be let down.

Both.

I don’t think we will get Deggs though. He will be very expensive and I’m just not sure the support is there for a 5yr $2m (roughly) commitment when you throw in the buyout.

I don't think money will be the problem if it's Deggs.
